Today, Community Beer Works (CBW) has announced the launch of their newest beer: Mocha Iced Cappuccino Whale. The special edition beer is a new variation of one of the brewery’s classic, award-winning brands, The Whale. It features locally roasted espresso beans to create a one-of-a-kind brew. Mocha Iced Cappuccino Whale will be served on tap at CBW’s taproom and in stores as a 6-pack throughout Western New York beginning July 22 while supplies last.

“During the heat of summer, two things help Western New Yorkers get through the day: cold coffee and cold beer. Our Mocha Iced Cappuccino Whale combines both, creating a smooth, drinkable brown ale perfect for any summer occasion,” said Community Beer Works Co-Founder Chris Smith.

Mocha Iced Cappuccino elevates CBW’s existing Whale brown ale by infusing distinctive English malts and hops with lactose, cocoa nibs and Madagascar vanilla. Espresso beans provide an additional layer of complexity to the brew — ultimately leading to a creamy, drinkable ale that features notes of coffee, chocolate and toasted grains.

The Whale is one of CBW’s year-round, award-winning beers. In 2017, the brew was awarded the TAP NY Governor’s Cup™ award for being the best-tasting beer. Later in 2020, CBW began growing The Whale as a full line of variants. The first of this expansion was with the Pod of Whales, which included the Choco Cherry Whale, Choco Taco Whale, Mocha Whale and Canadian Breakfast Whale. Since then, several other iterations have been released, including the Sponge Candy Whale.

“The Whale serves as a great foundation for us to get creative and experiment with new flavors, brewing unique beers that you can’t find anywhere else,” continued Smith. “Be sure to follow us on social media to see new variants of The Whale we come up with next.”

CBW was founded with a mission to celebrate and revitalize Western New York’s local beer-brewing culture. Since the first beer was poured, the company has brewed more than 300 types of beers, built a 13,000 sq. ft. brewery and taproom, designed a monthly subscription service and rewards program, and launched a beer-delivery/pick-up program.
