One week removed from their first ever can release, and mere months after announcing a second taproom in downtown Buffalo, Barker’s In the Mix Brewery & Creamery have announced that they will be closing for good, and will not be reopening either of their taprooms moving forward.

The brewery and frozen custard hybrid said that they made the decision to close their doors after “some miscalculations on just how long the bureaucratic red tape would take to clear.”

Owners Austin and Jared Mesiti made the announcement on Facebook, much to the shock and chagrin of their fans and followers.

“A message to our customers, we have had an absolute pleasure serving all of you over the past (almost) 2 years. However the time has come to announce that we will not be reopening In The Mix in Barker or Buffalo. This past year has been one hell of a challenge for everyone. Unfortunately we made some miscalculations on just how long the bureaucratic red tape would take to clear. It has come to the point that we cannot afford to wait any longer. We can’t thank you all enough for being our customers and becoming our friends. Keep supporting local!” the post reads.

“This is absolutely heartbreaking to read. Your Barker location was so great and you worked so hard and the food and drinks were spectacular. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. You have the work ethic and moxie to make anything work. This is a real loss for WNY,” commenter Rebecca Stadler said.

“Very sad to hear this, we will miss you guys and your brewery very much. You were our favorite brewery,” Greg Beardsley added.

“This is incredibly heartbreaking. You guys are amazing people with a vision and passion that shone brightly in all you did. We enjoyed your beer, your food, your service so very much. It was awesome to have a place right in our nook of town. It’s so sad to see you go. Thank you for all you gave to the patrons you served, and I pray one day there’ll come a way for your doors to open once more or that whatever dream you decide to chase next comes true,” Carrie Alberalla Ruvio said.

Over the course of nearly two years, In the Mix had become known for their innovative brews, including their Drip Series of pastry stouts and Illemonati series of fruited sours. They also achieved acclaim for their adult frozen custards and burgers.
