Buffalo Olde Brewery has released a new beer for the spring and summer months. Mama Mia, a Lemon Drop Italian Pilsner that uses Lemon Drop Hops for a refreshing, thirst-quenching citrus lager, honors the Lovejoy community’s history, including the neighborhood’s Italian heritage.

Brewmaster Tom Dargen collaborated with the Buffalo Beer Geeks to brew this Italian Pilsner for the CollaBEERation Festival, a unique brewing event where members of the Buffalo Beer Geeks community develop, name, and brew a never before made beer.

The Mama Mia Italian Pilsner was named in honor of Mary (Ferraro) Marko. Born in the coal-mining town of Pittston, PA, her large Italian family moved to Buffalo in the 1940s and settled in the Lovejoy neighborhood. Mary worked at a bakery on South Ogden Street and the candy counter of the old Lovejoy Theatre on Lovejoy Street, both blocks away from Buffalo Olde Brewery.
