Monster Beach Brewery & Tiki Bar will open in Fredonia at the site of EBC West on Jan. 24.

Monster Beach, a brewery, brewpub and Tiki bar with a classic movie monster theme, is the creation of former Community Beer Works head brewer Robert Turley Jr., Mandi Shepp and Christoph Shepp, will create immersive theming with bamboo walls, large sculptural installations, atmospheric lighting and classic movie monster scenes.

“We plan on creating the type of heavy and immersive theming that people expect when they think of a Tiki bar. With walls replete with bamboo, large sculptural installations, atmospheric lighting, and scenes with some of the classic monsters enjoying some time off that are perfect for photo ops,” Christoph says.

I am really looking forward to Monster Beach and seeing what they do with the space, but I’m going to miss EBC West. My wife worked for a time in Dunkirk and we spent time at EBC West – it was a nice place to grab a seat at the bar and enjoy a few beers. But I love classic horror movies and can’t wait to drink a few pints amongst the greats. And speaking of those pints, I’m most excited about having Robert Turley Jr. brewing beer much closer to me than CBW ever was. The Tiki drinks are just the icing on the cake, especially for me, selfishly, because it will give my wife a reason to want to come to a brewery with me. So I see myself at Monster Beach fairly often.

In keeping with their spooky theme, a description on their website reads, “The one-of-a-kind bar & brewery where horror meets paradise! Steel your nerves and enjoy our selection of unique tiki cocktails, a constantly changing menu of exotic bites, and high-quality beers brewed onsite. Let the chills and thrills of our themed atmosphere sweep you away to your fondest nightmares, where Frankenstein surfs and Dracula moon bathes on the shores of old Lake Eerie.”

Beers will include Surfin’ with Fred lager, Gillman Hazy IPA and Attack of the Green Tomatoes tomato herb wheat, in addition to traditional Tiki drinks and Modern Polynesian-style cocktails, including Tiki drinks like the His Hair Was Perfect Pina Colada or The Mummy’s Scorpion Bowl for two, Green & Gaseous, Fred’s Last Word and more.

“We use carefully curated rum blends, rare aperitifs and tropical juices to create delicious and balanced cocktails that you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the area,” Christoph said. “Monster Beach will serve high quality, fresh-brewed craft beer, made onsite utilizing locally-grown and seasonal ingredients, along with expertly crafted Tiki cocktails made with proprietary blends of juices, syrups, and liquors, and served with a bit of creepy-yet-tropical flair.”

The food menu will be full of small plates inspired by ingredients from Asia, the Caribbean islands, and Polynesian region.

“Rotating monthly, our food will offer new flavors in familiar forms, with options like the egg roll of the month, deviled egg of the month, kabob of the month, and more,” he continues. ‘Vegan and gluten free options will be available. Small plates will be offered À la carte for $10 per plate, or 3 for $25 as part of a build your own puu puu plater deal.”
