Welp, here we are, Day 2 of Buffalo Beer Week, which means that, if you’re reading this, you survived the first day of BBW and are off and running with your calendars and schedules planned out accordingly. Hopefully you have a copy of the official book with all of your events circled and highlighted. As expected on the first Saturday of BBW, there are plenty of things on tap (BEER PUNS!) for you to do today and even more beer to make sure you try.

Hopefully you had the chance to make it out to the Opening Gala last night at Flying Bison. As per usual, I ended up pouring beer for many thirsty folks, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way. I’d just like to thank Flying Bison for being such gracious hosts – they continue to be class acts in this beer scene.

Now, onto Beer Week Day 2.

Buffalo Brewed takes place tonight at the Imagine Event Center, which will feature a local beer takeover and performances by two of Buffalo’s most prominent Americana bands, PA Line and Black Canyon Lights. 7pm.

IPA Palooza at Pizza Plant Canalside features all locally brewed IPAs and a chance to speak with the brewers who made them. Yes, a beer event featuring all locally brewed IPAs – sounds pretty perfect, right? 12pm.

Resurgence Brewing’s Oktoberfest Party returns this year featuring not only individual Men’s and Women’s Stein Hoisting competitions, but Team Bier Games, including teams of four competing in Bier Barrel Race, Stein Carry Relay, Stein Hoisting and Cornhole. $10 gets you a commemorative stein, which features a free fill and $0.50 off all fills. Festivities start at 1:30pm with the Ceremonial Keg Tapping, followed by dancing, yodeling, music, food (Wayno’s BBQ and the return of Vanilla Cappuccino Pumpkin Ale. All team participants will receive a bier stein with complementary first fill and a Bier Team Shirt. 12pm.

Proving that time really does fly when you’re having fun, SATO Brewpub, the Japanese restaurant and brewpub featuring Belgian-inspired beers, is turning one. Their anniversary party will feature food, drink and merchandise specials, live music from Gravy, contests for prizes and a trio of anniversary beers, Momotoro, a 5% Brut IPA with Peaches, the latest in their J-Pop sour series, Ume Plum Gose, and Lil’ Peachy, Momotoro dosed with glitter. Yes, glitter beer returns to Buffalo! The event is non-ticketed and all are welcome to attend. 4pm.

Celebrate the coming of autumn at Flying Bison’s annual Bisonfest party. Contest & prizes will be awarded for Best traditional German attire, Best Moustache/Beard and Best David Hasselhoff Impersonator/Costume. The Frankfurters will take the stage outside in the biergarten under a massive tent from 1-4pm and the Isotopes follow 5-8pm. Food includes Spar’s Bisonfest Beer Bratwurst, Hamburgers, Scharf’s German Potato Salad, and One Foot Cock Apple Brandy Stewed Red Cabbage. Mazurek’s Bakery will be on-site with their new Eats-N-Sweets trailer serving up Aviator Red Soft Pretzels and desserts. $10 entry at the door includes 1 drink ticket (good for beer or soda) & 6 hours of live music. 12pm.

There’s plenty of live music to go out and see tonight as well. The Acoustified Duo performs at West Shore Brewing (7-9pm), the Michael DiSanto Trio takes the stage at 42 North (8-11pm), Old Hippies perform at Eli Fish (9-11:55pm) and Mosswalk are at Thin Man (10pm-1am).

Elsewhere during Buffalo Beer Week, as has become customary, Buffalo Brewing Company will be open every day and even have a new projection screen to watch Bills games on Sundays. Pearl Street and Lafayette Brewing are offering $3.50 pints all Beer Week long, and score $2 off pints at Pizza Plant and $4 pints at Riverworks Brewing with coupons you can find in the official Beer Week book.
