Flying Bison Honor One of Their Late Founders
On October 6, Flying Bison Brewing is paying homage to one of their late founders, Larry “Red” Mrozek, who passed away in 1997, at Red’s Heaven: Remembering Our Friend, a celebration of Red’s legacy. The event will be filled will all sort of his favorite dark beers, including Red’s Brown Ale (3.8%), a robust session brown ale, on draft and cask, Aviator Red and 2015 Red’s Heaven Imperial Ale (10%). Two “Red’s Brown Ale” casks will be tapped for the occasion, one at the normal Friday cask-tapping time of 3pm and one for a special toast to Red at 6pm.
Four Mile Brewing Gets Into the Canning Game
Olean’s Four Mile Brewing is the latest local brewery to release their beer in 12oz. 6-pack cans, starting with their Allegheny IPA (7.2%), a West Coast-style IPA brewed with six varieties of hops, and Polynomial Pale Ale Rotating Hop Series (5.7%), a pale ale with a rotating hop bill, with plans to sell their wares at Wegmans, Tops, Consumer Beverages and local beer stores throughout Olean, Buffalo, Rochester and into Pennsylvania. The initial run will feature 330 cases of the Allegheny IPA and 165 cases of the Polynomial Pale Ale. Green Street IPA will tentatively be next up for canning.
Buffalo Brewing Company to Expand Their Brewhouse
After being open every day during Buffalo Beer Week, Buffalo Brewing Company will now go dark for the next two weeks as they expand and upgrade their brewhouse to a brand new 5 BBL complete system. According to Buffalo Brewing Company owner John Domres, the brewery should be open again in a few weeks with more beer and more taps. “We hope to have the revamped tasting room and brewery back open on October 19. The tasting room will have 12 lines featuring lots of new additions to our current lineup. I don’t think people will be disappointed,” Domres says.
Drink Local at Buffalo Iron Works’ Oktoberfest: Local Edition
Buffalo Iron Works presents Oktoberfest: Local Edition 2017 on October 7 (3pm). Local Oktoberfest beers will be available from Resurgence Brewing, 12 Gates Brewing, Flying Bison, Community Beer Works, New York Beer Project, 42 North Brewing and Southern Tier Brewing. Entertainment will be supplied by the German American Musicians, ‘Buffalo’s BIG German Band,’ at 4pm, which will be followed by a special performance from Mike Gantzer of Aqueous & Rob Compa of Dopapod. The official keg tapping takes place at 6pm. Tickets are $5 (which includes admittance) and $25 (includes admittance and 20 tickets for beer/food) and are available at www.buffaloironworks.com.
