For it’s third year in a row, the autumn-inspired Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale will return to the 42 North Taproom starting Saturday, September 8. The brew has grown over the last few years to be a fan favorite fall brew prompting many to head to the 42 North taproom in search of the brew’s vanilla, raisin and lightly toasted malt flavors. Beer lovers will also be able to find the Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale at their favorite craft beer bars and restaurants in WNY.

The story of the Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale begins with a partnership. Elm St. Bakery owner Jay DePerno teamed up with 42 North’s Chief Brewing Officer Clay Keel to create a beer inspired by the sought-after baked goods made in the Elm St. kitchen. As the leaves turned, they decided on an array of seasonal ingredients including chocolate, cinnamon, toffee, vanilla, molasses and, of course, toasted oat to add to the English Brown Ale base. This ruby brown ale pairs nicely with vanilla ice cream, pumpkin pie and your favorite fall cookies. Notes of baked bread and dark sugar to finish remind us all of the oatmeal raisin cookies we’ve grown to love as kids.

The Oatmeal Cookie Brown is the subject of 42 North’s most recent Behind the Brew series film. Behind the Brew: The Story and of the Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale breaks down the creation, inspiration and homegrown partnership that the beer is made of. As the story grew, so did the need for more oats. The video also explains why 42 North now uses Ted Hawley of NY Craft Malt and the largest roaster in the Northeast to toast their oats.
