With the Buffalo Bills clinching a postseason berth and one game away from a second straight AFC East title, it’s fitting that Wednesday’s impending snowstorm has been named for Thin Man Brewery’s Pills Mafia.

The Erie County DPW continued their tradition of naming winter storms after Western New York beer with Winter Storm Pills Mafia, which follows previous years storms, which were named after Rusty Nickel Brewing’s Ebenezer IPA and Hamburg Brewing’s OMS.

“Our @ErieCountyDPW names snow storms after local microbrews. DPW Commissioner William Geary announced tonight’s storm is named after @ThinManBrewery’s “Pills Mafia,” a most appropriate brew for this time of year. Looking like a 6 pack storm on the Griffin Scale, maybe OV Splits,” Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted.

Thin Man Brand Ambassador Mike Shatzel said he was blown away that one of Thin Man’s beers was chosen for the honor.

“I was kind of blown away. It’s definitely a cool thing to see. Hopefully the storm isn’t too bad and people won’t buy Pills Mafia during the [Bills] Super Bowl run,” he jokes. “[But] maybe if it is a crazy storm, the name will stick and we can do a special one year anniversary version next year.”

Head Brewer Rudy Watkins agrees.

“It’s fun that the DPW names storms after local beers,” Watkins said. “Technically, Pills Mafia doesn’t come in a 6-pack (yet!). Maybe the fact that it comes in 4-packs means we’ll be spared the worst of the storm.”

You can find Pills Mafia in cans and on draft at the brewery or wherever great beer is sold right now. While you’re out stocking up for the storm, make sure to grab some extra to keep yourself hydrated during the Bills upcoming deep playoff run.
