On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will pass through Buffalo at 3:18 p.m. For approximately 3 minutes and 47 seconds, the magnificent power of the sun will be dimmed by the moon, an object 1/400th of its size. The temperature will drop, birds will go quiet, and a small part of our world will go dark. While the entire country will experience a partial eclipse, Buffalo is among the few lucky cities to experience a total solar eclipse, an astrological event that has not occurred in our city in almost 100 years.
Resurgence Brewing was selected as the sole craft brewery in WNY to participate in the Simons Foundation ‘In the Path of Totality’ initiative. Partnering with 13 breweries along the path of totality, the Simons Foundation is working to create special edition, eclipse-inspired beers and encourage people to come together to learn more about the eclipse and opportunities near them.
“Breweries aren’t just places to have great, local beer,” said John Tracy, program director of the Simons Foundation’s Science, Society & Culture program. “They’re social hubs for the communities in which they reside, and they have a unique power to bring people together. And they’re perfect spots to discuss and celebrate awe-inspiring events like a total solar eclipse.”
To celebrate the total solar eclipse, Resurgence is releasing a Wheat beer called ‘In the Path of Totality 3:18 PM’ representing the time stamp of the Total Solar Eclipse in our Buffalo and Western N.Y. region. The official launch event for ‘In the Path of Totality 3:18PM’ will take place at the Resurgence taproom at 55 Chicago Street on Wednesday, February 28 starting at 5 p.m. The beer will also be available throughout Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and the Erie, PA markets beginning the week of March 4. On February 28, the first 100 guests will receive a free Path of Totality Pint glass with opportunities for prizes throughout the evening.
In addition to the beer release, Resurgence will host a family-friendly event on Monday, April 8, 2024. The ‘3:18 Eclipse Bash’ will start at 12:30 p.m. with music performances by Mayday and Buffalo’s own NBC’s “The Voice” contestant, Cami Clune. There will also be a 5K Resurgence Run starting at 12:45 p.m. with scheduled completion by 2 p.m. The event will feature food trucks, kids’ activities, and a variety of craft vendors from AVA Collective. Beginning at 3 p.m., Andy Parker will be honorary MC providing insight leading up to the 3:18 p.m. Total Solar Eclipse. Resurgence Brewing will have 1000 Eclipse viewing glasses for guests to reserve and hold their spot for the viewing event. We encourage guests to bring foldable chairs. Parking will be available for all guests, including those traveling by bus.
