Beer Kind Brewing has launched a special new charity tap at their Tonawanda taproom to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, in efforts to support their mission to help fight Alzheimer’s disease.
From now through Sept. 28, leading up to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor, a portion of proceeds from every ounce poured of American Beam will go directly to the brewery’s fundraising efforts for the walk. All funds raised through the Walk will go towards furthering the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“Our mission is to ‘beer kind to your mouth’ through great tasting beer and to beer kind to our community through charity contributions and involvement,” Beer Kind says. “So we always thought it would be cool if we featured a charity tap and give back to the community and team up with local charities.”
Beer Kind says that the Alzheimer’s Association was easy decision as the first charity to benefit because their cause is one that hits home for head brewer and co-owner Alex Buckley.
“We thought this would be a great charity and event to start with. So many families are affected by Alzheimer’s, including Alex’s family. His grandmother has dementia,” the brewery says.
The Alzheimer’s Association offers a variety of in-person and virtual events. You can find more local programs and online resources by contacting the 24/7 Helpline (1-800-272-3900).
Beer Kind says that they hope to continue the charity beer tap moving forward after the walk with other causes to help raise money.
“We hope to do this throughout the year and team up with other causes to help raise money. Possibly have a dedicated charity beer Alex brews for an ongoing charity tap,” Beer Kind says. “Besides the charity tap, we also give our spent grain to two local farmers, participated in the Kenmore Pub Crawl, which raised scholarship money for high school seniors, and we are also taking part in Ale Trail tasting event to benefit The Arc Erie County [later this month].”
Beer Kind’s beer is also now available in cans, either in single 16oz. cans or 4-packs.
The current selection features American Beam, Naked Pig Brown Ale, Smile Be Hoppy IPA, Your Brain on Hops NEIPA, Patrick, the Pal Pale Ale, Bananakin Hefeweizen, Right in the Kisser Strawberry IPA, Miss Peaches Peach Sour and Salted Watermelon Hard Seltzer.
“Since we opened, our customers have been asking for to-go options and we want people to be able to take our beers home to enjoy as well. We will be canning all of our beers and people can buy by the can or build their own mixed 4 packs,” the brewery said.
Plans call for cans to be available at the brewery moving forward.
