There is great beer being brewed right up the road in the Rochester area – anyone who has ever spent time up there will tell you that. It’s no small secret. The beer is so good in fact that it is starting to matriculate down the I-90 into Western New York as three of my favorites – Mortalis Brewing, Frequentem Brewing and now K2 Brothers Brewing – are soon to set up shop in and around the Buffalo area with new satellite taprooms.

The latest brewery to take their talents to the Queen City is Penfield’s K2 Brothers, who have announced plans to team with Hatchets & Hops in Black Rock. The space, to be called K2 Brothers Taps and Hatchets and Hops, will feature nine K2 beers on draft, including one-off releases and exclusives. A kick-off party is expected for the new spot, located at 68 Tonawanda Street, on August 26.

K2 joins the likes of popular Avon brewery Mortalis Brewing Company, a brewery known for their fruited sours and imperial stouts, who plan to open a new taproom in Buffalo at 1250 Niagara Street, next to Twin Petrels Seltzer Company. Plans call for Mortalis to cohabitate with Illumination Meadery, who will have eight meads on draft and sell bottles to go.

Additionally, Frequentem Brewing, who currently operate in Canandaigua at 254 S. Main St. and originally opened in summer of 2020 by Meagan and David D’Allesandro, is gearing up to open in the Old First Ward at 225 Louisiana St. The newly proposed taproom is actually part of a larger $38 million redevelopment of the 150,000-square-foot Barcalo Living & Commerce Center, site of the former Barcalounger factory. It includes 118 apartments and 35,000 square feet of retail/commercial space.

Stay tuned to our website and our social media channels for more updates on each of these spaces as they become available.
