Rusty Nickel Brewing Co. will be hosting a “Malt Madness” homebrew competition on September 23 at 3pm. The brewery invites homebrewers to think outside of the box with their malt-forward entries by categorizing the beer by SRM (Standard Reference Method) instead of style.

Entrants should visit Rusty Nickel Brewing Company’s Malt Madness Facebook event page or website, to register for the event. Registration fee for each entry will be $5. Brewers must submit two 12-ounce or larger bottles/cans of their beer by September 19. Each entry should be labeled with the brewer’s name and the beer’s SRM.

The categories will break down as follows:

  • 2-3 SRM (pale straw – straw)
  • 4-8 SRM (pale gold – deep gold)
  • 9-14 SRM (pale amber – medium amber)
  • 15-19 SRM (deep amber – amber-brown)
  • 20-29 SRM (brown – ruby-brown)
  • 30-40 SRM (deep brown – black)

Winners of each category will receive a medal, and Best in Show will be invited to brew their winning beer on Rusty Nickel Brewing’s brewing system to be served in the tasting room.

Any interested homebrewers are welcome to bring extra beer to sample at Rusty Nickel Brewing for some honest feedback from craft beer enthusiasts.
