Monster Beach Brewery & Tiki Bar has announced that they are closing their doors on November 1 and this writer is bummed. I liked the space, which was the former location of EBC West if you didn’t know, a place I always made time to stop into when I was in town. At Monster Beach, the beer (Surfin’ With Fred Lager was my favorite of their releases) and the food were solid, plus watching classic monster movies over a few fresh pints at the bar was a major selling point for us. In its short time in the scene, Monster Beach created some real vibes and it sucks, at least to me, that they couldn’t make it last.

In a post to their social media, Monster Beach said that they have been operating at a loss for the past year, and simply are just not able to continue running and operating the business. It’s no small secret that these are challenging times for craft beer, especially in Western New York, and owning, operating and running a brewery is tough.

“This is the hardest post I’ve ever had to make, and it’s been eating me up, but here it goes, the brewery said. “We have been operating Monster Beach for the past year, at a loss, and at tremendous personal costs to our schedules, health, and sanity. We’ve reached a point of loss where we simply cannot continue to operate without putting our own homes and livelihoods at risk. This really was a dream for such a long time, and I’m shattered that it unfortunately has to end.”

They will be open Wednesday through Saturday for the next two weeks.

“It has been incredibly difficult, but incredibly rewarding, to have the absolute honor of serving all of our regulars and satisfied guests complex and incredible Tiki cocktails, fantastic house brewed beers, and original Asian Fusion cuisine. Those of you who frequented Monster Beach have shown an incredible amount of support and love, and we love you right back. Thank you, to everyone who’s come out and showed support. We love you and truly wish we could continue to do it,” the brewery said.

I am looking forward to making the trip down to Monster Beach in the coming weeks before they close their doors for good. That was part of it for me, the trip down. It is such a beautiful drive down to Fredonia. Hopefully there will be a good flick on TV while I enjoy a few pints.
