When New Year’s Eve comes to mind, one probably pictures sparkling glasses of champagne, electrifying ball dops and countdowns, fireworks, and confetti, at least, here in the U.S. Around the world, though, these celebrations can look very different. In some cultures, throwing furniture out your window, wearing colorful underwear, or taking a plunge into frigid ocean waters might bring you good luck and prosperity in the New Year.
“There is something really wonderful about tradition. I think we all cherish the memories from past holidays and look forward to recreating those each year. So for me, this event is all about learning what is special to other cultures and finding new and fun ways to celebrate the holidays. I don’t want to give away any surprises, but I can’t wait to watch people interact with some of these out-of-the-box traditions.” -Katie Havens, General Manager, Rusty Nickel Brewing.
This year, Rusty Nickel Brewing in West Seneca, NY will host a New Year’s Eve party that highlights the bizarre, bewildering, and beautiful New Year’s traditions from cultures around the world. The “international showcase” will include a globally-inspired food buffet, specialty drinks, and themed music. A keepsake passport will guide guests through activities and tastings each hour of the event. Guests are encouraged to dress in traditional garments that spotlight their own heritage or in travel/tourist inspired costumes. The best dressed guest will take home a “23andMe” DNA ancestry kit.
“I’m excited about this event because it provides a unique opportunity for people to experience new year’s customs of other regions around the world, first hand. I think I am most excited to try the food and specialty drinks that will be unveiled each hour as we tour the world. Our team has put together a one-of-a-kind event.” – Jason Havens, Owner, Rusty Nickel Brewing
