WNY Breweries Win at 2024 NYS Craft Beer Competition
New York Beer Project won five medals at this year’s New York State Craft Beer Competition. They won Bronze for Brewers Reserve BA Sour Blend in the Barrel Aged Sour category, Silver for Man’s Best Friend in Belgian Other, Bronze for The One V.56 in Hazy IPA, Silver for Irish Coffee Stout in Specialty Beers – Stouts & Porters, and Gold for Hazy Crush: Island Style IPA in the Experimental IPA category. Additionally, Resurgence Brewing won Silver for Citmo IPA in Hazy IPA and Big Ditch Brewing took home a Bronze for Double Barrel Aqueduct in the Barrel Aged (Non Sour) category.
K2 Brothers Brewing at Hatchets & Hops to Close
Hatchets & Hops is set to close their Black Rock location, which was home to a satellite taproom from Rochester’s K2 Brothers Brewing, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Owner and founder Andrew Piechowicz says they will now focus efforts on their original downtown location at 505 Main St., Buffalo Business First reports. The taproom opened inside the Black Rock Freight House on Tonawanda Street last August. Hatchets & Hops first opened for business in 2016. The closure is expected to come later this month.
Resurgence Brewing’s ‘Every Beer is Girls’ Beer Release
Resurgence Brewing and the Pink Boots Society will release their new collaboration, Every Beer is Girls’ Beer, the end result of a special brew day held on International Women’s Day, on March 30. For $20, Resurgence is throwing a Barbie-themed brunch buffet for the release. Every Beer is Girls’ Beer is a hop-forward Buffalo IPA with bright tropical fruit notes, pine and malt sweetness. A portion of proceeds from the sale of this beer goes directly to the Pink Boots Society to assist, inspire, and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education.
1927 Brew House Release New Pilot Batch Hazy IPA
1927 Brew House has dropped a brand new pilot batch hazy IPA, Exposaic New England IPA. This 7.6% hazy IPA is brewed with Mosaic and experimental hops to give it notes of tropical fruit, mango and grapefruit. Exposaic NEIPA is available on tap right now at 1927 Brew House’s taproom at the Walden Galleria, as well as Santora’s Pizza Pub and Grill locations.
New Beers Dropping this Week at Mortalis Brewing
Mortalis Brewing Buffalo will release three new beers this week – Hydra|Final Four Smoothie Sour, Hydra|Chonk Smoothie Sour and Odins Revenge Double IPA – on March 28. Hydra|Final Four is a smoothie-style sour fruited with orange, pink guava, pineapple, and peach, Hydra|Chonk is a smoothie-style sour, brewed in collaboration with Drekker Brewing, fruited with dragon fruit, mango, raspberry, and coconut, and Odins Revenge is dry hopped with Motueka, Southern Passion, Galaxy, and Cryo Columbus, for soft notes of lime zest, passion fruit, and ripe citrus. All three beers will be available on tap at Mortalis Buffalo and in 16oz. 4-pack cans to go.
Tap That Tap Room to Celebrate First Anniversary
Tonawanda’s Tap That Tap Room are celebrating their first year of pouring happiness one pint at a time on April 6 (noon). The anniversary party will feature live music from Hal Yeah! (2pm) and Michael Bly (7pm), a Tap Attack with Downeast Cider House (3pm), 10% off all appetizers and happy hour specials on the beer wall all day long, a Free Beer For a Year giveaway and a special anniversary gift to the first 200 people through the door. Tap That Tap Room is Western New York’s first female-owned self-pour taproom.
