Dude’s Homebrew Competition 2023 at Resurgence Brewing

The 9th annual Dude’s Homebrew Competition, which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, will take place August 20 (12-3pm) at Resurgence Brewing, where homebrewers will serve samples of their beer to attendees, who will vote for their favorite beer, which will be judged by a panel of local brewers. The winners will then get to brew their entry at Resurgence. For a $30 donation to blood cancer research, you can taste dozens of homebrewed beers and receive a free tasting glass. Penfield’s K2 Brothers Brewing Coming to Black Rock

The latest brewery to take their talents to the Queen City is Penfield’s K2 Brothers, who have announced plans to team with Hatchets & Hops in Black Rock. The space, to be called K2 Brothers Taps and Hatchets and Hops, will feature nine K2 beers on draft, including one-off releases and exclusives. A kick-off party is expected for the new spot, located at 68 Tonawanda Street, on August 26. K2 Brothers joins the likes of Avon’s Mortalis Brewing and Canandaigua’s Frequentem Brewing as breweries from the Rochester are planning on opening locations in Buffalo.

Shalooby Loofer Brewing Announces Soft Opening Dates

Western New York’s newest brewery, Shalooby Loofer Brewing, have announced a string of soft opening events ahead of their grand opening on September 1. You can check out the space for yourself on August 18, August 19, August 25 and August 26 (5-10pm). The brewery and taproom is located in a converted 3-car garage equipped with a Ruby Pro 1 BBL Electric Brew House. The brewery has announced that they plan to donate a portion of their proceeds to charity with $1 of each pint sold in the tasting room going to benefit buildOn, which will help to support building a school in Nepal. Johnson’s Landing Brewery Open for Business in Hamburg

Johnson’s Landing, located at 4040 Lakeshore Rd. in Hamburg, is officially open for business. Currently, they have only one of their own brews on tap – 3 Fin Shark New England IPA, which features notes of orange flesh, peach, and clementine; light bodied with a soft finish, and the slightest touch of resin on the mouthfeel. There is a rooftop bar, plenty of seating on multiple levels, self-pour tap walls inside and out, 2 full bars, games, and more. They will be open every day but Tuesday, 11am – 10pm.

12 Gates, 26 Shirts Team Up for Rocket Arm Fruited Sour Beer, Merch

12 Gates Brewing and teaming up with 26 Shirts on a new beer, Rocket Arm, a Berlinner Weisse with blood orange and mango, and matching shirt, with a portion of proceeds going to benefit Feedmore WNY. Rocket Arm will be released at 12 Gates on draft and in cans August 17 (4pm) at the brewery. 26 Shirts will be on-site for the release and will be giving away a free Rocket Arm hat to the first 25 guests who purchase the beer. Community Beer Works to Drop New Hazy IPA, Charitable Lager

Community Beer Works will release Single Order Hazy IPA on August 19 (1pm). This new hazy IPA opens with citrus and hop aromas, followed by notes of orange peel, white peach and tangerine, and a smooth rounded finish. The first 50 guests at the brewery this weekend will receive a complimentary Single Order can glass and additional merch will be available. There will be a Single Kegerator giveaway, wing eating showdown, spicy wing showdown, music from Brendan Orr from Canetis & Slow Animals and Mr. No The Balloon Guy.

The previous day, on August 18, CBW is teaming up with Arc Inspire of WNY (4pm) on Arc Lager. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the lager will benefit The Arc Erie County New York, a non-profit organization that supports children and adults with disabilities and their families in achieving their desired quality of life by creating opportunities through comprehensive quality services. The beer releases comes ahead of the 3rd Annual Ale Trail, a special tasting event filled with craft beer, wine, and cigars provided by local vendors and live music from Hit N Run. Windy Brew to Open New Location in Batavia Thursday

Strykersville’s Windy Brew will officially open their new second taproom, located in Batavia at the Harvester Building (56 Harvester Center), on August 17 (11:30am). Brewing operations will continue in Strykersville and the taproom will feature space for approximately 20 to 25 people at the bar, and another 10 to 15 at tables. In addition to Windy Brew’s beer, some other New York State brews and possibly wine could be served. They will be open Tuesday and Wednesday (2-9pm), Thursday, Friday and Saturday (11:30am – 10pm) and Sunday (11am – 6pm).
