Voting is open for The Buffalo News’ Best of 716 and there are plenty of beer-related categories to vote in. Several breweries, bottle shops and beer stores are nominated in a wide variety of categories.

New York Beer Project leads the way with four nominations, Fattey Beer Co. scored three nominations and Big Ditch Brewing, Britesmith Brewing and Brewed and Bottled Craft Beer Shop each have a pair of nominations.

Big Ditch Brewing, Brewed and Bottled, Fattey Beer, Griffon Gastropub and New York Beer Project are up for Best Beer List.

Hamburg Brewing, Big Ditch, Resurgence Brewing, Wayland Brewing and New York Beer Project are up for Best Brewery.

Brewed and Bottled, Consumer’s Beverages, Premier Gourmet and Fattey Beer are up for Best Beer Store.

Other nominations include Gene McCarthy’s (Best Irish Bar), Fattey Beer (Best Neighborhood Bar), Johnson’s Landing (Best Rooftop Bar), Best Brunch Location (New York Beer Project), Best German Restaurant (Hofbrauhaus), Best Brunch Location (Johnson’s Landing, Britesmith Brewing, Hamburg Brewing), Britesmith (Winter Outdoor Dining) and Jefferey Miranda (New York Beer Project) is nominated for Best Bartender.

You can vote here through July 29. You can also cast your vote via text at (716) 452-9012 (one text-to-vote per category per day). Winners will be announced on September 28.

WNY Brewers Guild to Hold Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament

The first ever WNY Brewers Guild Charity Golf Tournament, set to take place August 29 at Chestnut Hill Country Club, will offer golfers and beer enthusiasts an opportunity to play a round with local brewers while enjoying local food and beverages, beer sampling, hole challenges and raffles. You’ll get a chance to meet brewers, sample their beers and raise money for local charities such as Habitat for Humanity, ASPCA and Feedmore WNY. The cost to participate is $120 per person and includes golf, breakfast, lunch, steak dinner and food and drinks on the course. The 4-person scramble tournament will start at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Register at www.WNYBrewersGuild.com.

Moor Room to Host Zwanze Day 2022

Zwanze Day, Brasserie Cantillon’s annual event in which they brew a small batch of an experimental beer and offer it in a select group of pubs around the world, is coming to Moor Room on September 24. This year’s Zwanze beer is a two-year-old Lambic blend with black pepper, a Congolese pepper called poivre de Gorilles. This year, a portion of beer sales will be donated to Gorilla (https://www.gorilla.fr/), an organization working to protect Great Apes. This will be a ticketed event. Stay tuned for more details.

Windy Brew’s Hop Fest Returns This Weekend

Windy Brew’s annual celebration of all things hops, their 5^th annual Hop Fest, returns on August 28 (1pm) at the brewery. Your $30 ticket includes admission, two drink tickets, a special souvenir cup, food and live music by American Ride Maine duo. The brewery is also planning to have some special beers releases on tap for the event as well. Tickets are available at the brewery. The event will also feature a corn hole tournament with prizes to the first place team (sign up available upon arrival).

Pumking Family Reunion at Southern Tier Brewing

While it’s not technically fall yet, Southern Tier Brewing is reuniting the Pumking Family for their annual celebration on August 27 (11am) at The Empty Pint in Lakewood. In addition to the classic Pumking, the event will feature Warlock, Cold Press Pumking, Pumking Whiskey and more. The free event will also feature special Pumking flights and samplings, live music, deals on packaged product, and more.

Thin Man to Release DIPA, Belgian Tripel Collaboration

Thin Man is holding another dual can release this weekend, with the returning End Times Fun Imperial IPA and the debut of Trippel Jinx!, a Belgian Tripel brewed with Niagara County honey in collaboration with Superstition Meadery. Trippel Jinx! features notes of warming alcohol with notes of peach and pear, delicate malt and light honey in the semi-dry finish, while End Times Fun smells like mango, grapefruit, orange hard candy, and wildflower honey with a light sweetness. Look for both beers at both Thin Man locations August 26.

Two Stories Amber Lager celebrates Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House

Resurgence Brewing and The Buffalo News continue to tell the stories of Buffalo through beer, the latest being their Two Stories Amber Lager, crafted to celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House. This amber lager carries a hint of toasted malt profile that includes biscuit, caramel and toffee notes. The Dog Days of Summer at Steel Leaf Brewing

Steel Leaf Brewing is celebrating The Dog Days of Summer this weekend, August 27-28, a special event featuring vendors, pools, activities for the entire family and raffles, all for a good cause. Steel Leaf is transforming their parking lot into a total play park for you and your pet, complete with a giant 3ft. pool, boozy popsicle stand, beer tent, food, games and fun. The weekend-long event kicks off Saturday at 11am.

Cat Days of Summer at One-Eyed Cat Brewing

If you’re more of a cat person, One-Eyed Cat Brewing is celebrating the Cat Days of Summer alongside Pork Bellies BBQ and Ten Lives Club on August 28 (2pm). One-Eyed Cat will be donating 100% of the proceeds from every ‘Lil Stompies IPA, a NEIPA with fruit aromas and pillowy mouthfeel, sold to Ten Lives Club. Pork Bellies BBQ will also be donating 10% of their food sales that day. In addition to craft beer and BBQ, there will be adoptable cats, a 50/50 raffle, basket raffles, and games. Pine Deer Project will hit the stage at 2pm.

Resurgence Brewing Company and The Buffalo News announced the release this week of Two Stories Amber Lager, a brew crafted to celebrate the resurgence and tourism success of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House.

Two Stories Amber Lager marks the third craft beer release of the “Stories of Resurgence” series – a partnership between Resurgence and The Buffalo News created to honor Buffalo’s revitalization.

Two Stories’ beer can features a QR code that links to a dedicated microsite, where users can access a promo code for $5 off any public tour at the Martin House, plus read and learn about Frank Lloyd Wright and the significance of his Buffalo masterpiece.

“We’re excited to continue to partner with The Buffalo News on this fun, informative and celebratory craft beer series,” said Jeff Ware, president and owner of Resurgence. “The restoration of the Martin House and its tremendous success as an international destination speaks to the power of our community. Our Two Stories Amber Lager helps share that history and hopefully inspires pride in Buffalo’s architectural gem.”

This well-balanced amber lager carries a hint of toasted malt profile that includes biscuit, caramel and toffee notes. At 5.0% ABV, it is an easy-drinking, flavorful beer.

Two Stories Amber Ale is now available at Resurgence Brewing on Chicago Street, and at Consumer’s Beverages, select Tops Friendly Markets locations and anywhere good beer is sold.

Resurgence Brewing Teams with Buffalo News on New Beer Series

The Buffalo News and Resurgence Brewing Company have partnered on “Stories of Resurgence,” a new beer series in honor of Buffalo’s revitalization. The first beer in the series, Big League Summer, celebrates the return of Major League Baseball to Buffalo for the first time since 1915. The can art features a QR code that connects users to a local sports trivia quiz and the story on Buffalo’s baseball history. Big League Summer is a 6.5% ABV all-Citra hopped New England-style IPA with a strong tropical fruit flavor profile. Big League Summer is available at the brewery and Consumer’s Beverages.

Mr. Goodbar Beer Club to Feature Flying Bison Brewing

For the next installment of Mr. Goodbar’s Beer Club, the first back at the bar since the start of the pandemic, Flying Bison will serve as the guest brewery on July 14 (7:30pm). Owner Tim Herzog will take part, bringing along beer such as Larkin Lager, Mango Peach, Rusty Chain, Fairtastic, Aviator Red, Juice Caboose, Brother Manto, Blackbird Stout,  Chocolate Cherry Porter and Paula’s Peanut Stick Porter. Beer Club will feature desserts from Fairy Cakes Cupcakery and Bakeshop. A limited amount of tickets are available at Mr. Goodbar.

New Meadery Coming to East Aurora

A new meadery reportedly has plans to open up shop in East Aurora in the future. Deanna Grace Spengler filed for a manufacturing license in June for Three Bear Meadery, according to Buffalo Business First, who also reports that she plans to make the honey-based mead at her Maple Avenue home in Hamburg and sell the products at farm markets and through online sales. Three Bear Meadery is named for her three boys. There is no official timeline for opening.

Buy Community Beer Works Good Neighbor and Help Fight Cancer

For every six-pack of Community Beer Works Good Neighbor IPA sold in July, $1 will be donated to Roswell Park. Try-It Distributing will match all donations made. CBW is also partnering with Tops Friendly Markets, who will donate an additional $1 per six-pack sold at all locations until July 31. Tops shoppers can also find displays of Good Neighbor IPA with QR codes to enter a giveaway at participating locations.

West Shore, Eli Fish, Rusty Nickel, Lilly Belle Team on New Smoothie Sour

Three local breweries and one meadery – West Shore Brewing, Eli Fish Brewing, Rusty Nickel Brewing and Lilly Belle Meads – have teamed up on Open Boxes, a 6% fruit smoothie sour, which will be released on July 17 at all participating locations. Each brewery was tasked with providing 1-2 boxes of fruit puree without telling the other brewers. Each location will have just 8 cases and a limited amount on draft. Draft will be available Wednesday only at Rusty Nickel.

The Buffalo News and Resurgence Brewing Company are partnering to launch a new beer series, “Stories of Resurgence,” to raise a glass in honor of Buffalo’s revitalization – and give craft beer aficionados a new option for summer sipping.

The first beer in the series, Big League Summer, available now, celebrates the return of Major League Baseball to Buffalo for the first time since 1915. The beer can features a baseball-inspired design with a QR code that connects users to a dedicated microsite, where they can challenge themselves to an interactive local sports trivia quiz and catch the inside story on Buffalo’s baseball history.

“Partnering to share Buffalo’s stories of renewal with Resurgence’s smart, well-informed customers was one of those ideas that just immediately made sense.
