Pour Taproom Buffalo Closes After 4 Years

Pour Taproom, a self-pour beer, cider and wine bar located at 490 Pearl Street in Buffalo’s Theatre District, closed Wednesday after 4 years in business. Owners Matt Prime and Joe DiCenzo made the announcement on social media. Prime and DiCenzo say that they were hoping to have an official closing party in a few weeks, but were not able to make it work. Their other location, which opened last year inside the former Slopeside Restaurant at the Telemark Hotel, will remain open for business. Pour Taproom Buffalo opened in 2021.

Erie County Fair Homebrew & Cider Making Competition Returns

The 2025 Erie County Fair Homebrew and Cider Making Competition is accepting entries beginning April 1, with a deadline of April 30. The judging is based on creativity and not necessarily by style, and while all BJCP styles can be entered, the main criteria will be “creative relevancy” or the most fun beer/cider to enjoy at the fair. The winning homebrew beer will be brewed at Hamburg Brewing, while the winning cider will be brewed by BlackBird Cider Works. Both will be available on tap at the fair, Hamburg Brewing and Resurgence Brewing, as well as in cans. Entries can be dropped off at Resurgence or Hamburg’s taprooms, or at the Erie County Fairgrounds Main Offices. There is a $25 entry fee.

WNY Breweries Win Big at 2025 NYS Craft Beer Competition

It was a solid showing for local breweries at the 2025 New York State Craft Beer Competition, which took place Friday, March 21 at the Albany Capital Center as part of the NYS Brewers Conference. Resurgence Brewing grabbed a silver medal for their White Ale (Wheat Beers), Pearl Street Grill & Brewery won gold for Saber’s Edge DIPA (American DIPA), Hamburg Brewing won gold for OMS (Stout (Non-Imperial)) and New York Beer Project Irish Coffee Stout took bronze (Specialty Beers (Stouts & Porters)). Western New York breweries also swept the Experimental category, with Eli Fish Brewing scoring bronze for Chateau Tropicale, Resurgence’s Another Caucasian, Gary nabbing silver and Big Ditch Brewing going gold with Carrot Cake Winter Ale.

Wayland Brewing Dinner at Rationales

Rationales will host Wayland Brewing for their next beer dinner, Thursday, March 27 (6pm). The dinner will feature four courses, each paired with a Wayland beer. The menu includes Strawberry Field Salad, paired with Case Study IPA, Cuban Crostini paired with Waylander Pilsner, Mineo and Sapio Italian Sausage and Smoked Cheddar Mash paired with Super Deluxe American IPA and House Made Peanut Butter Pie paired with Old Growth Schwarzbier. Tickets are $65 and include tax and gratuity and can be purchased here.

42 North Brewing Re-Release Beyond Boundaries Pils

42 North Brewing has re-released Beyond Boundaries, a West Coast Pilsner that combines the crispiness of a pilsner with the citrus hop flavor of a west coast IPA. The beer, which was originally released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Buffalo’s business startup incubator, 43North, last fall, features Simcoe, Chinook and Tonatiuh hops. Beyond Boundaries will be available at both 42 North’s East Aurora and downtown Buffalo taprooms, as well as wherever great craft beer is sold, including Consumers Beverages, Wegmans, select Tops and select bottles shops.

CollaBEERation Festival Announces More Collabs

CollaBEERation Festival, which takes place at the Powerhouse on Apr. 5, has announced another round of collab beers that will be poured at the event. Among the recently announced collaborative brews are Mystic Hills Brewing Miami Weisse (Florida Weisse with papaya, tangerine, and pineapple make up the tropical beach flavor), Beer Kind Brewing Jason Mimosa! (Mimosa Hazy IPA), Smoldered Society – World Police DIPA (Fermented with over 90lbs of pink grapefruit, double dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin, Citra Cryo, and Riwaka and conditioned on marshmallow), Noble Shepherd – Concessions (Sour Apple Berliner Weisse), and more. Wild Game & Beer Dinner at Griffon Gastropub in Lewiston

Griffon Gastropub in Lewiston is hosting their first ever Wild Game & Beer Dinner on April 1 (6pm). There will be a welcome reception with beer and passed hors d’oeuvres before the beer dinner, which features five wild game courses paired with Griffon Brewing beer. The wild game dishes will be prepared by Celebrity Chef Chaz Bulera. Tickets are $79.99 per person (plus tax/gratuity) and space is limited. The Griffon Gastropub has closed their Clarence location, 5445 Transit Rd. in Williamsville, which had been in operation for the past decade.

They announced on social media that their lease was not renewed after the recent sale of the building.

“Unfortunately, due to the recent sale of the building, our existing lease is not being honored. Despite our sincere efforts to resolve this issue, we were unable to come to terms and must now seek a new location,” the post read. “This was our second Griffon Gastropub, featuring our largest beer selection and situated in a bustling, vibrant area that served guests from numerous nearby communities.”

According to Buffalo Business First, Eastern Transit Plaza was sold in February for $5.5 million. Other tenants of the building include Fred Duncan Performance Training, Just Pizza and Mirchi Indian Cuisine.

Griffon Gastropub says that they hope to possibly open another location in the area soon. They add that all gift cards will be honored at any of their other locations.

“Thank you for your support over the years in Clarence,” the post continues. “We sincerely hope the right opportunity arises for us to return.”

They add that the impending closure is ‘extremely disappointing’ and that they had a number of improvements in the works for the location.

“We had ambitious plans for this location which were already in motion, including many exterior improvements and what was set to be a stunning patio, providing a unique outdoor dining experience. These investments were driven by the incredible customer base we’ve built over the years, as we wanted to enhance your experience with us,” the post reads. “Therefore, it is extremely disappointing to close a growing and successful restaurant.”

“This is a challenging situation for any restaurateur, and the impact on our guests and dedicated staff is what saddens us the most. It’s a tough business, and while restaurant closures are common, this is particularly difficult because our Clarence restaurant was on the brink of a new chapter of growth.”

Griffon Gastropub also operates locations in Niagara Falls, East Aurora and Lewiston. Griffon Brewing also recently opened in Youngstown. Located at 200 Lockport St., they are open Thursday (3pm-10pm), Friday (3pm-12am), Saturday (12pm – 12am) and Sunday (12-9pm). In addition to a full line of house made craft beers, Griffon also offers liquor and wine, and a house seltzer line, Pubbles.

WNY Brewers Guild to Hold Annual Charity Golf Tournament

The third annual WNY Brewers Guild Charity Golf Tournament will take place Aug. 26 at Chestnut Hill Country Club, an annual event that offers golfers and craft beer enthusiasts an opportunity to play a round of golf, as well as local food and beverages, beer samplings, hole challenges, raffles and more. You’ll get a chance to meet the brewers and raise money for local charities. The cost to participate is $120 per person and includes golf, breakfast, lunch, steak dinner and food and drinks on the course. Ellicottville Brewing, St. Bonaventure Launch New IPA

After selling out in two days the first time it was released, Ellicottville Brewing has released a new batch of Bonnies Fan Zone IPA, a new brew made for St. Bonaventure University and their athletics programs. The re-release of the beer features a revamped can with St. Bonaventure’s new athletics logo. Bonnies Fan Zone IPA is available in stores now wherever great craft beer is sold. The beer is also available for purchase at the Ellicottville Brewing Company’s Ellicottville and Bemus Point locations. Bonnies Fan Zone IPA will also be available during campus events at the Rathskeller and Fairway View.

Pressure Drop to Release New Hazy IPA, Problematic Favorite

Pressure Drop Brewing is releasing a brand new hazy IPA, Problematic Favorite IPA, this weekend. The 7% hazy beer is brewed with Citra and Mosaic for notes of citrus, orange and dank hops. Problematic Favorite Hazy IPA will be available in 160z. 4-pack cans and on draft this weekend at Pressure Drop‘s Elmwood Ave. taproom and wherever great craft beer is sold beginning next week.

Hamburg Brewing Creates Beer for Eden Corn Festival

The 60th annual Eden Corn Festival returns to Eden this weekend, August 1 – 4, and with it comes the return of Hamburg Brewing’s Eden Corn Festival Cream Ale, brewed special for the festival. The beer, a 4.9% cream ale brewed with corn, will be available in the Legion Beer Barn and Beer Tent while supplies last. Frequentum Brewing Co. Buffalo Grand Opening

Frequentem Brewing, who currently operate in Canandaigua at 254 S. Main St. and originally opened in summer of 2020 by Meagan and David D’Allesandro, will officially open their new Buffalo location in the Old First Ward (225 Louisiana St.) at the Barcalo Living & Commerce Center on Feb. 3 (12-11pm). The grand opening will feature a number of Frequentem’s beer on tap, which includes a selection of lagers, hazy IPAs, fruited sours and stouts. The 150,000 sq. ft. Barcalo Living & Commerce Center, site of the former Barcalounger factory, also includes 118 apartments and 35,000 square feet of retail/commercial space.

Doppelbock Returns to Taps at Hofbrauhaus Buffalo

Hofbrauhaus is tapping their Doppelbock on February 1 (6pm). Hofbrauhaus Buffalo’s Doppelbock is one such example of both. Pizza Plant’s Belgian Beer & Chocolate Event Is Back

Pizza Plant’s annual Belgian Beer and Chocolate Festival returns on February 7 (6pm) to their Transit Road location. The event will feature a number of Ommegang beers, who will be bringing Raspberry Lemon Falls, Everything Naughty, Witte, Nitro Three Philosophers and Barrel Aged Three Philosophers. There will also be an Ommegang swag raffle. The beers will be available in a flight or ala carte. Griffon Brewing Tap Room to Hold Grand Opening

Hofbrauhaus Buffalo will tap their Hopfen Weizen on June 3 (7pm). If you’re new to this style, expect a hazy beer with a thick white head, super fruity and tropical aromas, slight pithy orange / pineapple juice taste and clean bitterness on the end. Pressure Drop to Release Lyam’s Lager to Benefit Oishei’s

Pressure Drop Brewing will release Lyam’s Lager in honor and memory of Lyam J. Frank, who suffered from Volvulus and needed assistance from Oishei’s Children’s Hospital. This lager is a testament to the work and specialized care the doctors and nurses at Oishei’s provide. A portion of proceeds from the sale of Lyam’s Lager will go to benefit Oishei. Triple Beer Release at Thin Man This Weekend

Thin Man Brewery will release three beers on June 3, Elettrico Eterno Italian Pils, Temper Tantrum Turtle American Pale Ale and One Lofty Goalsch. Elettrico Eterno, a collaboration with Manlius’ A.W. Griffon Gastropub to Open New Brewery in Lewiston

The owners of Griffon Gastropub, who have locations in East Aurora, Clarence, Niagara Falls and Lewiston, have announced plans to open a brewery at 115 S. Water St. in Lewiston. The new spot, which will be called Griffon Brewery and Gastropub, will supply the Griffon chain with its own brews. Work is currently underway in the kitchen at the location, which ownership hopes to have open by May 8. And while work continues at the brewery, Griffon House on Center Street in Lewiston will close.

Tickets Still Remain for Community Beer Works’ Thee Barleywine Classic

Limited tickets still remain for the second annual Thee Barleywine Classic, an intimate gathering of select craft breweries coming together to celebrate and showcase the wonderful style of barleywine, which takes place at CBW on February 27 (12-4pm). Tickets are $45 and include 10 tastings, custom tasting glass, bowl of chili with cornbread and live music. Other Half Brewing at Seneca One Tower is Back Open

The doors at Other Half Brewing’s Buffalo location at Seneca One Tower are finally back open after the location received the proper licensing. The taproom will be open Tuesday (2-7p), Wednesday (2-7p), Thursday (2 –-7p), Friday (2-7p) and Saturday (11a-7p) and closed Sunday and Monday. Hofbrauhaus Tapping Marzen For March

For their monthly keg tapping, Hofbrauhaus Buffalo will break into the barrels of marzen on March 2. This springtime marzen pours burnt orange with aromas of bread and toasted crust. There is a slight floral spiciness from the hops, though the beer drinks smooth and finishes clean and crisp. Hofbrauhaus recommends pairing it with the Schweinbraten. Windy Brew to Celebrate Fifth Anniversary

Windy Brew is taking a weekend to celebrate their milestone fifth anniversary on March 4 – 5. Not only will there be live music on Friday by Alexander James (5-9pm) and Saturday by Christian Kramer (7-10pm), the brewery will be tapping a number of new beers, including Veterans Juice Pale Ale, brewed with Veteran Hop Blend, Get Firked, a berry flavored pilsner in a firkin, Frut Lups, a Fruit Loops-flavored sour, Krissy’s Kar Bomb Stout, an Irish Car Bomb-inspired stout and Wind Power Sour, brewed with mango, pineapple, strawberry and marshmallow. 97 Rock Home Show Happy Hour Returns to Buffalo Home Show

Not only is the Buffalo Home Show returning to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center this year (March 4-6, 11-13), so too is The 97 Rock Home Show Happy Hour. The event, hosted by Tom Ragan from Shredd & Ragan In The Morning, features craft beer, cider wine, games, trivia and more, each Friday night (5-7pm), free for all Home show attendees 21 and over. 42 North Brewing and Community Beer Works will be pouring different craft beers each Friday. You can save $2 by buying tickets in advance online.
