Waldfest: Festival in the Woods Returns to East Aurora

It’s that time of year again – time to gather together in the woods and toast giant mugs of traditional German beer. Yes, you guessed it – it’s once again time for Waldfest, the annual Festival in the Woods, which takes place on July 19, 12-7 pm, at Spring Garden Park (3838 Two Rod Road, East Aurora). The German American Musicians and the Polka Boyz will provide authentic German music and food will be available on-site as will plenty of authentic German beers. There is also free parking. Buffalo Barrels & Brews at Butera’s With Buffalo Distilling

Butera’s, Buffalo Distilling and the Village Brew House are teaming up to host a special night of craft beer, food and whiskey – Buffalo Barrel & Brews – on June 30 (6 pm). There will be complimentary bourbon tastings from Buffalo Distilling and beer samplings from Village Brew House, as well as a presentation exploring the history of bourbon and brewing in Buffalo. Throughout the evening, there will be featured bourbon cocktails, draft beer specials and more. The event is free and open to the public – reservations are encouraged as seating is limited.

Wines in the Wild Returns to the Buffalo Zoo

Wines in the Wild returns to the Buffalo Zoo on June 18 (5-8 pm). The special event features beverage and food sampling from local wineries, cideries, meaderies and breweries, as well as live music, special appearances from the Zoo’s animal ambassadors and more, all spread throughout the grounds of the Buffalo Zoo. The event will feature Brazen Brewing, Mortalis Brewing, Lilly Belle Meads, Rusty Nickel, OSB Ciderworks, and more. Funds raised from Wines in the Wild will go directly to supporting the Buffalo Zoo. Flying Bison Night at the Ballpark at Sahlen Field

Flying Bison Brewing is hitting the field on June 18 for Flying Bison Night at the Ballpark at Sahlen Field on Thursday, June 18. The festivities start at 5:30 pm with a beer sampling with Flying Bison founder and Godfather of Buffalo craft beer, Tim Herzog, at the Fattey Craft Beer Corner before he throws out the ceremonial first pitch. Then, as the Buffalo Bisons take on the Charlotte Knights at 6:35 pm, fans can purchase 16oz. Buffalo Lager cans at Concessions 116, 100, and 111 throughout the game. The Pickle Party at The Lock Tender

The Lock Tender is celebrating all things pickle at The Pickle Party on June 20. The event will feature more than 30 sour, pastry sour, fruited beer and cider tastings from Mortalis, Drekker, Prairie Artisan Ales, Other Half, Urban Artifact, Spyglass, Heavy Reel, Dewey, Beer Tree, Rising Storm, Prison City, Big Ditch and more. Buffalo Distilling Company will release Buffalo’s first Irish Whiskey, a resplendent spirit born in County Cork, Ireland, and finished in Port casks.

The event will be held at Buffalo Distilling Company on Saturday, March 4, starting at 1 p.m. Live music by Raised Irish will be featured from 3 to 6 p.m., followed by Big J Blues from 7 to 10 p.m. The Cheesy Chick Food Truck will be on site from 2 to 7 p.m. Sales and tastings of the Irish Whiskey will continue all day, along with signature cocktails, beer and wine. Admission is free.

This release honors the memory of Bob Gallivan, a lifelong Buffalo firefighter and Irish family man. Bob was an avid live music fan and early supporter of Buffalo Distilling Company. “May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.”

Buffalo Distilling Company will release the first ever “Bottled In Bond” bourbon whiskey produced in the city of Buffalo, to coincide with Kentucky Derby Day.

The event will be held at Buffalo Distilling on Saturday, May 7, starting at 1 p.m. There will be live music by the Vinnie Barbarino Experience from 3 to 6 p.m., while the Kentucky Derby will be shown live at 6:57 p.m. Sales and tastings of the Bottled In Bond bourbon will continue all day. Admission is free.

This release is significant because it represents the first ever Bottled In Bond bourbon to be produced in the city of Buffalo. To be considered “Bottled In Bond,” the bourbon must be aged at least four years, be 100 proof and be produced completely by the company on the label. Whiskey aficionados know that the Bottled In Bond label (which goes back to the Bottled In Bond Act of 1897) means they are getting the best possible product from a distillery — the “good stuff!”

One Last Hurrah at Community Beer Works Lafayette Location

As Community Beer Works turns the page to their new, much larger location at 520 7th Street, they are set to close the book on their Lafayette Avenue brewery, which has served as their home for the past six years, but not before one last party on August 4 (12pm). The party goes until 7pm before shifting down the road to 7th Street for a preview of their new taproom and brewing facility. Shuttles will be provided. “It’s not goodbye forever,” CBW says. “Our Lafayette location will reopen sometime in 2019, but for now we must say, embeer you later!”

Buffalo Brewpub, 12 Gates Brew Special Beer for Paws at the Pub Fundraiser

Buffalo Brewpub is once again partnering with the SPCA Serving Erie County for Pubs at the Pub, a fundraising event to support homeless pets in need, on August 5 (12pm). The event will feature fun music, tasty food, basket raffles, a silent auction, 50/50, door prizes and great drinks, including Passionfruit Mango Koslch, a new collaboration from the Brewpub and 12 Gates Brewing brewed for this event. Expect a nice crisp and clean kolsch with soft tropical aromas and flavors and around 5% ABV. This is a free event and open to all ages. This is also a pet-free event.  

Flying Bison, Buffalo Distilling Team Up for Booze and Brews Music Festival

Flying Bison Brewing and neighbor Buffalo Distilling are joining forces for the inaugural Booze and Brews Music Festival, a full day of music, food and drink spanning both locations, on August 4 (12pm). For $10 you’ll get food/drink specials at both locations and access to a stacked bill, including The Trend (12:30pm – Flying Bison Outdoor Stage), A Band Named Sue (2pm – Flying Bison), The Steam Donkeys (3:15pm- Flying Bison), The Black Rock Beatles (4:30pm- Flying Bison), The Twang Gang (6pm- Flying Bison), Lazlo Hollyfeld (7:15pm- Flying Bison), Michael DiSanto (9pm- Buffalo Distilling) and Zak Ward (10pm- Buffalo Distilling).

Pressure Drop Brewing Collaborates With Big Ditch, SATO Brewpub

Pressure Drop Brewing has teamed up with Big Ditch Brewing and SATO Brewpub on a pair of new IPAs. Pressure Drop and Big Ditch brewed Aqua Buddha, a 7.5% West Coast IPA with Warrior, Columbus, Moasic, Hallertau Blanc and Simcoe and Azaaca hop oil. The beer, brewed at Pressure Drop, should be available in 3 weeks. Plans also call for around 100 cases of the beer to be canned. Pressure Drop also partnered with SATO on a hazy IPA brewed with Simcoe oil and Amarillo hops and double dry hopped with Loral and Mosaic. Should be availabe in 2-3 weeks.
