Wayland Brewing’s Spring Beer & Food Fest Returns

Wayland Brewing will hold its second annual Spring Beer & Food Festival on May 17 in Wayland Hall. In addition to Wayland, the festival will play host to tastings from numerous other breweries, including Beer Kind Brewing, Briarbrothers Brewing, Brickyard Brewing, Frequentem, Mortalis, New York Beer Project, Other Half, Fidens, Angry Chair, Threes Brewing, Swiftwater, Talea, Strangebird, Prison City and more. There will also be food available from Buffalo Burger Bros and more. Tickets, which include tastings, food and a commemorative glass, are $60 and are available to purchase now online. Designated driver tickets are also available.

Sad Boys Brewing Announces Closure

Another Buffalo brewery is closing its doors as Sad Boys Brewing has announced that they are ceasing all operations immediately, citing ‘unforeseen circumstances.‘ They announced via social media. “It’s with a heavy heart we announce our closing. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have ceased operations effectively immediately. We would like to thank all our loyal patrons for the past 2 amazing years. It’s not goodbye its ‘I’ll see you later‘.” Sad Boys, the brainchild of four homebrewers, John O’Neill, Tyler Randle, Collin Edbauer and Andrew Anderson, opened in 2023.

Tickets On Sale For New York State Craft Brewers Fest

The New York State Craft Brewers Festival: Buffalo returns to Canalside on June 21 and tickets are on sale. The annual event is produced by the NYS Brewers Association and Western New York Brewers Guild. This year will feature craft beer from over 50 breweries, live music, food trucks, artisan vendors, and more. Participating breweries have been announced and you can find that list here. Fifth Annual NYS Pint Days Returns In May

The 5th annual New York State Pint Days, a statewide event where $1 per pint glass sold at participating breweries directly supports the New York State Brewers Association, returns May 8-11. Each year the NYS Pint Days Glass features a unique design that celebrates NYS craft beer. This year’s commemorative glass will be designed by Em Sauter, an award-winning cartoonist and founder of Pints and Panels, a site dedicated to visual beer education. Erie County Fair Homebrew & Cider Competition Deadline Extended

The 2025 Erie County Fair Homebrew and Cider Making Competition has extended the deadline for accepting entries until May 5. The judging is based on creativity and not necessarily by style, and while all BJCP styles can be entered, the main criteria will be “creative relevancy” or the most fun beer/cider to enjoy at the fair. The winning homebrew beer will be brewed at Hamburg Brewing, while the winning cider will be brewed by BlackBird Cider Works. Both will be available on tap at the fair, Hamburg Brewing and Resurgence Brewing, as well as in cans. Entries can be dropped off at Resurgence or Hamburg’s taprooms, or at the Erie County Fairgrounds Main Offices. There is a $25 entry fee.

Perry’s Ice Cream, Southern Tier Brewing Giveaway

Perry’s Ice Cream and Southern Tier are joining forces on a new giveaway inspired by their latest collaborative beer, Cherry Pie Imperial Ale. Big Ditch and Theatre District Association Brew New Beer

Big Ditch Brewing and the Theatre District Association of Western New York have teamed up on a new kolsch, Open Curtain, which will serve as the official beer of the Theatre District Association’s new season. The beer is a 5.3% easy drinking, slightly fruity and bready, German-style lager/ale hybrid. Or as Big Ditch says, it’s a “beverage that pairs wonderfully with drama, comedy and everything in between.” Open Curtain will be available starting Friday, Sept. 13 at Curtain Up on Main St. It will also be available at theatres and restaurants in the Buffalo Theatre District all season long, as well as at the brewery.

Hamburg Brewing 11^th Anniversary Party

Hamburg Brewing is throwing it back to the 90s to celebrate their 11^th anniversary on Sept. 14 (12pm). The event will feature 90s fashion, live music from IOT Band (1pm), South City Band (4pm) and Nineties by Nature (7pm), multiple bars, food specials, and more, including Dunk the Brewer, a new carnival style dunking game features Hamburg Brewing’s brew staff. There will be a $10 cover at the door for the event.

Oktoberfest Celebration in Jackson Square with Eli Fish

Eli Fish Brewing is celebrating Oktoberfest on Sept. 14 in Batavia at Jackson Square. The brewery will have a beer trailer set up in the square pouring German beers, including Oktoberfest and Festbier, a traditional Bavarian food stand serving bratwursts, pretzels, schnitzels, and more, pizza from Matty’s Pizza, games including stein-holding, vendors, traditional German music by the German-American Musicians, traditional dance performances and more. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, and can be purchased here.

Food & Beer Pairing at Butera’s / Village Brew House

Butera’s Craft Beer & Craft Pizza in Hamburg are hosting a Food & Beer Pairing on Sept. 19. The event will feature five courses, each paired with a different Village Brew House beer. The pairings include VBH ‘Merica Lite Lager and Tomato Bruschetta, VBH Pizza Cake Pilsner and Pear & Prosciutto Flatbread, VBH Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It and Orange Citrus Chicken Salad, VBH Use Your Illusion and Steak & Roasted Potatoes and VBH Pandemic Porter and Chocolate Raspberry Flourless Torte. Buffalo Beer Goddesses 12^th Anniversary Party

The Buffalo Beer Goddesses are celebrating a dozen years of supporting women and promoting diversity in the beer industry on Sept. 19 at Mr. Goodbar. Admission is $10 (cash) for non-members and $5 (cash) for members and includes Goodbar chicken wings, food provided by BBG members, and drink samples from local vendors. The first 50 attendees also get their first pint of beer on the BBGs. Anyone who identifies as a woman/NB person interested in joining as a member, speak with a BBG officer at the door to find out how to register. The party is also open to non-members.

New Buffalo Bills Beers at Mortalis, Other Half & Sad Boys

The new football season is in full swing and with it comes a plethora of Buffalo Bills-themed beers. There are so many to choose from locally, and that list continues to grow with new beers at Mortalis Brewing, Other Half and Sad Boys Brewing. Mortalis’ Gemini: Circle the Wagons is a fruited smoothie sour brewed with blueberry, raspberry, marshmallow, and walnut. Sad Boys Mafia Made Man American Ale features aromas of toasted bread and notes of caramel and nuts, and Other Half’s Brocpile Imperial IPA, brewed with Citra, Motueka, Comet, and Vic Secret hops, and Tables on Tables IPA, brewed with Citra, Strata and El Dorado hops, are back for the new season. Smoldered Society Releases New Version of Illusion of Safety DIPA

Smoldered Society has released a new version of their flagship double IPA, Illusion of Safety. The beer features Cashmere and Sabro hops in the boil, dry hop additions of Cashmere, Citra Cryo, and Motueka hops, with additional Phantasm Powder added. It features notes of candied stone fruit, white grape, and citrus zest. Waldfest: Festival in the Woods Returns to East Aurora

It’s that time of year again – time to gather together in the woods and toast giant mugs of traditional German beer. Yes, you guessed it – it’s once again time for Waldfest, the annual Festival in the Woods, which takes place on July 21, 12-7pm, at Spring Garden Park (3838 Two Rod Road, East Aurora). The German American Musicians and the Auslanders will provide authentic German music and food will be available on site as will plenty of authentic German beers. There is also free parking. Second Annual Christmas in July at Sad Boys Brewing

Sad Boys Brewing is getting into the holiday spirit at the brewery this weekend with their second annual Christmas in July party on July 20. Tickets on Sale for Beer Justice Brewing’s Pars & Pints Tournament

Tickets are now available for Beer Justice Brewing’s Pars & Pints Tournament at Spruce Ridge Golf Course in Arcade on Aug. 3. The event features an 18-hole golf tournament, 4-man scramble, lunch, 12 beer tastings with a free pint, event swag, and more. It is $320 per team and the event kicks off on the course at 10am. Weekly Drops at Mortalis Brewing Buffalo

It’s a new week, which means a handful of new beers will be available at Mortalis Brewing Buffalo. Available July 18 will be Demihydra Key Lime Raspberry Sweet Cherry (Gluten Free Fruited Smoothie Sour), brewed with key lime, raspberry, and sweet cherry, Cerberus, a fruited smoothie sour with ripe raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry, creamy milk sugar, and marshmallows, Tears of the Goddess: Carrot Cake, a sour IPA brewed with Cheesy Eddie’s that features cream cheese frosting, cake, carrot puree, and spices, Apollo (Pale Ale), hopped with Galaxy, Mosaic, and Citra, and Critical Hit Imperial Stout, a collaboration with Corporate Ladder Brewing that features toasted coconut, cacao nibs, and granola (500mL bottle). All other beers will be available in 16oz. 4-pack cans and on draft.

First Ever Farmcraft Brewery Farmer’s Market

Farmcraft Brewery will host their first ever Farmer’s Market in Strykersville in July 21 (12pm). The market will feature local vendors selling meat, produce, gifts, merch, fresh-cut flowers and more. Attendees will also have the first opportunity to get a sneak peak of Farmcraft’s new facilities before they open to the public. The space is a 11,000 square foot two-story taproom with seating for 100 guests, retail shop, full bar featuring craft beer, spirits and cocktails, full scale production brewery, private party rooms, outdoor patio with fire pit, kitchen featuring artisanal pizzas, and more. Wayland Brewing’s First Ever Spring Beer & Food Festival

Wayland Brewing will hold their first Spring Beer & Food Festival on April 6 (1-4pm) in Wayland Hall. In addition to Wayland, there will be craft beer and cider from Strangebird, Frequentem, Mortalis Brewing, Dancing Gnome, Personal Best, Autark Brewhouse, Smoldered Society, BriarBrothers Brewing, Brazen Brewing, Brooklyn Cider House, Aurora Brew Works, and OSB Ciderworks, with more to be announced. There will also be food available. Tickets are $55 and include tastings, food and a commemorative glass. Tickets can be purchased online or at the taproom. Only about 200 tickets available.

12 Gates Brewing Launches New Imperial Beer Series

12 Gates Brewing has introduced a new line of high ABV brews dubbed ‘The Imperial Series.’ The first beer is an 8.5% West Coast-style Spring IPA, which is available now. This beer packs a punch while still maintaining a smooth drinkability, and balances a delicate bitterness with a subtle sweetness. Sad Boys Brewing to Celebrate One Year Anniversary

Magic Bear Beer Cellar Collabs With Brindle Haus Brewing

For the next exclusive Magic Bear Beer Cellar collaboration, the wheel has landed on Spencerport’s Brindle Haus Brewing Co. The result of that collaboration is BoysenBEARy Tart, a boysenberry fruited sour that features elements of sour, sweet, creamy, berry tartness, and graham cracker, which will be available on tap on March 28 at Magic Bear (5pm). Sloop Brewing Beer Pairing Dinner at RationAles

For their latest beer pairing dinner event, Williamsville’s RationAles is welcoming Sloop Brewing to town on March 27 (6pm). Tickets are $65 and include four craft beer pours paired with four dishes, including an appetizer (Cheddar Ale Soup and West Coast Style IPA), salad (Classic Wedge Salad and Premium Lager), entrée (Nashville Hot Chicken and Super Soft IPA) and dessert (Irish Soda Bread and Half Baked Stout). Eli Fish Brewing Set to Celebrate Sixth Anniversary

For Eli Fish’s sixth anniversary on March 23, it’s an all-day party, starting at noon. Homebrew Sessions No. 1 at Woodcock Brothers Brewing

Woodcock Brothers Brewing in Wilson is hosting a homebrew day demonstration on Mar. 16 (9am), featuring samples of beers, Q&A with the brewers, and more. Big Ditch x Strangebird to Release Strangeburner IPA

Big Ditch Brewing and Rochester’s Strangebird have teamed up on Strangeburner IPA, a new blend version of Big Ditch’s flagship Hayburner IPA and Strangebird’s Gouden Boom Belgian Strong Ale, which will be released Mar. 15 at Big Ditch. The end result is a beer that is Belgian golden, elegantly tart, moderately bitter, and gently sweet, with a lingering sour. Strangeburner will be available in 4-packs to go and on draft.

Southern Tier Brewing, Perry’s Ice Cream Team on New Beer

Southern Tier Brewing Company has once again collaborated with Perry’s Ice Cream on Orange Twist, an 8.6% ABV Imperial Ale that features notes of orange sherbet swirled with Perry’s signature vanilla ice cream flavor. Pizza Plant Presents Annual Tim’s Beer Show Tasting Event

Buffalo Beer Godfather Tim Herzog is coming out of retirement for one night only on October 18 (7pm), for New York’s longest running beer event, Tim’s Beer Show, at Pizza Plant Transit. Celebrate the Start of Hockey at Hocktoberfest at Pearl Street

Hocktoberfest, October 5 at Pearl Street Brewery, is the official event to celebrate the start of hockey season in Buffalo, an evening of live music, special appearances, and hockey themed activities. The Zambonis and Captain Tom and the Hooligans will perform, Buffalo’s ‘Best Mullet’ contest will take place, and beer will include Southern Tier Harvest IPA, Ellicottville Brewing Pumpkinville, 42 North Fall Bock, Riverworks Brewing Splashing Pumpkins and The Dominator and Pearl Street Oktoberfest. Celebrate National IPA Day at Eli Fish Brewing and Southern Tier Brewing

August 3 marks National IPA Day, a day in which we honor a beer style that has taken the world by storm, igniting taste buds and captivating palates with its bold flavors and aromatic hops, and a number of local breweries are celebrating, including Eli Fish in Batavia and Southern Tier in Buffalo. The latter will offer $10 IPA flights and $5 IPA crowlers all day long beginning at 11am on Aug. 3, and the former will release a new hazy IPA – The Greatest Of All Warriors, a double dry hopped New England IPA with Rakau and Motueka hops, on Aug. 2. It will be available on draft and in cans to go.

Froth Brewing Teams With Buffalo Rapper On New Beer

Froth Brewing has teamed up with Buffalo’s own, Def Jam Recording artist Benny the Butcher, on Coconut Key Lime Pie, a new heavily fruited sour ale. This 6.5% brew is brewed with coconut, key lime, graham cracker crust and marshmallow topping. Hofbrauhaus Hofbrau Keller Tapping with Buffalo Beer League

Hofbrauhaus will debut their newest summer seasonal, Hofbrau Keller, on August 3 (6pm) with help from the Buffalo Beer League, who will serve as celebrity keg tappers for the event. Members of the BBL will lead the ceremonial parade and then will help to tap the keg of Hofbrauhaus’ newest lager. Keller is 5.1%, is brewed with Herkules, Perle, Magnum, and Select hops, and features a hoppy aroma, touch of fruitiness, and a refreshing, subtle hoppy finish. August is Hopfest at Flying Bison Brewing

While National IPA Day is August 3, Flying Bison Brewing is celebrating the believed beer style all month long as the entire month of August is Hopfest, which will feature IPAs on draft and in cans. The hoppy selection is led by newer offerings, Hazy Chain Pineapple Double IPA (big, hazy and smooth with a slight nose of pineapple) and Down By the River IPA (Belgian style IPA featuring Cascade, Chinook, Centennial and Idaho 7 hops fermented with Belgian Ardennes yeast), and also features hoppy brews such as HopCat IPA, Jucie Caboose and DubMaster DDH IPA, on draft. The 40^th annual Taste of Buffalo, presented by Tops, will feature more than 40 restaurants, food trucks, craft breweries, New York State wineries, and more, coming together to celebrate Buffalo’s food scene. It will be held July 8 and 9 on Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo.

The list of restaurants includes a mix of classic American and ethnic cuisines that represents the diverse food culture for which Western New York is known. Ten restaurants will be participating in the Taste of Buffalo for the first time, including new meatless and gluten-free options.

“For 40 years, the Taste has been bringing the community together to celebrate our diverse foods and the city we love,” said 2023 chairperson Elizabeth Mamot. “This year is no exception as the menu includes a variety of Buffalo’s food favorites coupled with an eclectic mix of international, gluten free and vegetarian offerings, and of course, birthday cake! This is Western New York’s official invite to join us for plenty of 40^th birthday fun.”

Genesee Brewery, Coca-Cola, The Tipsy Trailer, and Sad Boys Brewing round out the beverage options for this year’s Taste.

Sad Boys Brewing to Open in Larkin Neighborhood

Sad Boys Brewing, the brainchild of four homebrewers, John O’Neill, Tyler Randle, Collin Edbauer and Andrew Anderson, will officially open in Larkin at 567 Exchange St. on Wednesday (5pm). The funky industrial space includes 1,200 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor seating, with an option to expand to 3,000 sq. ft., including a long customized bar top, plenty of parking, and a number of handcrafted beers, including Berry Sad Hazy IPA, Papa’s Pils, IRA Irish Red, King of the Kolsch, Therapy Session IPA, Kettle My Korn Pilsner, Black and Tans Strong Pale Ale and Tropical Teardrop Seltzer. They will be open Wednesday – Friday (5 – 11pm) and Saturday – Sunday (12 – 11pm).

Beer List for CollaBEERation Festival 3.0 Announced

The official beer list has been announced for CollaBEERation Fest 3.0, a festival made for beer geeks and brewed by beer geeks. Among the over 40 small batch beers, ciders and meads available this year as Big Ditch’s StraightEdge Turtle (N/A pasty brew with caramel, chocolate and pecan), BriarBrothers Brewing Always Next Year… (Barleywine aged in Black Button Distilling bourbon barrels), Thin Man You Had Me At Aloha IPA (Tiki-inspired Hazy IPA with pineapple, coconut, and vanilla), One-Eyed Cat Brewing IPAnnie (Bourbon Barrel Conditioned IPA), Lafayette Brewing – Big Brunch Energy Fruited Lager (lager with grilled peaches), and more. Resurgence Brewing Offers FU Awesome Brewery Tours

You can now tour Resurgence Brewing Company’s Chicago Street facility in style with their new FU Awesome Brewery Tours. Starting March 25, these tours will take place each Saturday at 5pm. You can learn about the history of the brewery, get up close and personal with the brewing equipment, learn fun facts, enjoy demonstrations, and sample beer along the way. A number of local beers took center stage at the American Advertising Federation of Buffalo’s ADDYs Awards. Community Beer Works x Fanfare Kansas City at Buffalo Game Day Ale (Week 6) grabbed a silver (Visual – Illustration – Single), as did CBW’s Extra Large Chocolate Malted Milk Stout. Stronghold Studios picked up gold for their work with Brickyard Brewing (Visual – Illustration – Series). CBW x Fanfare Game Day Series also scored gold for Green Bay at Buffalo (Week 8) in Sales Promotion –Packaging – Single Unit, CBW’s Spruce Almighty grabbed silver and CBW’s Summer Blockbuster IPA won gold in the same category, Tom Cavanagh Design won silver in Sales Promotion – Packaging – Campaign for their work on Resurgence Brewing x Buffalo News Two Stories Amber Lager. 42 North Celebrates Maple Season With Tree Tap Maple Fest

On March 25 (12-4pm), 42 North Brewing is teaming up with the Erie County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department for Tree Tap Maple Fest, which includes guided tours, demonstrations of the maple production process and much more. The festival will also include maple-inspired food from Fat Bob’s BBQ, desserts by Blue Eyed Baker, kettle corn, live music by Off the Grid, and the special tapping of 42 North’s limited-edition Maple Porter. The maple porter was produced with maple syrup from the Erie County forest. This will take place at the Erie County Forestry Bureau’s “Sugar Shack” in East Concord.
