Hamburg Brewing Creates Beer for Village Anniversary

The Village of Hamburg is turning 150 years old and Hamburg brewing has created a special beer to commemorate the achievement. The beer, called ‘1874,’ is modeled after the original recipe for White Corner Wheat, the first beer ever brewed at Hamburg Brewing. 1874 American Wheat Ale is a 5.3% clean and simple Wheat Ale, named after White’s Corners, which is now known as Main and Buffalo Streets. It’s brewed with Pilsner and Wheat malts and Herkules, Perle and Citra hops. The beer will be available on draft and in 12oz. 6-pack cans for $10.99 and $39.99 for a case.

The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry has announced a full schedule of activities for 2024, including numerous Ranger Walks and hikes in the Park Ranger Program, along with the return of the popular Pints in the Park series.

Ranger events are happening weekly and offer free, easy ways for families and individuals to observe and learn about the nature, wildlife and geology of Erie County parks while enjoying time outdoors. Hosted by Resurgence Brewing Company along with 42North Brewing company, the Pints in the Park partnership returns for 2024 with events rotating between four of the county’s heritage parks.

“Erie County parks are a natural jewel that’s right here for everyone to enjoy and explore year-round. Our parks are free, accessible, and in great shape following millions of dollars of investments,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “The Park Ranger program gives families an opportunity to learn more about our Parks from one of our Rangers. It is a tremendous way to stimulate children’s fascination with nature, including their ‘residents’, and is a good way to spend time outdoors.”

Also returning for 2024 is the popular Pints in the Park series, a partnership between the Parks Department, Resurgence Brewing Company, and 42 North Brewing Company. These are fun, free, family-friendly “beer garden” style pop-up events in parks throughout the County in the summer. The Pints in the Park series complies with all Erie County and NYSLA regulations/ permitting guidelines. A portion of all sales are donated to the Erie County Parks Donation Account to support free, public special events and programs.

While there is something to the whole being one with nature thing you can experience in any one of the great parks across Western New York, being able to enjoy everything those same parks have to offer but while surrounded by friends with a fresh local beer in hand sounds much better. You just do that once again this summer as Erie County’s Pints in the Park Program, which features Resurgence Brewing, 42 North Brewing and Flying Bison hosting pop-up beer gardens in Erie County parks during the summer and fall, returns for 2022.

A portion of proceeds from these events will be funneled straight back into the parks system to aid in putting on free community events.

The 2022 program kicks off June 3 at Red Jacket Riverfront Park.

“With over 10,000 acres of land in the Erie County Park System, we are always looking for new, exciting ways to get new visitors out to the parks,” Erie County Parks, Recreation & Forestry Commissioner Troy Schinzel said. “This is why we were extremely excited when a few local breweries reached out to set-up “Pop-Up” Beer Gardens throughout the summer and fall in Erie County parks. Portions of the proceeds brought in at “Pints in the Park” events in Erie County parks come straight back to the parks to enhance our free special events, such as Santaland at Chestnut Ridge Park and our Fall Festival in Como Lake Park.”

Flying Bison’s Tim Herzog says Flying Bison is excited to be a part of the program because, aside from the obvious, enjoying beer outside in the elements is an important part of his evolution as a beer drinker.

“Flying Bison is excited to be part of Pints in the Park. We are looking forward to bringing the Biergarten experience to three very different Erie County Parks,” Herzog says. “Having a beer and relaxing outside has always been part of my beer enjoyment, from the discovery of Guinness F.E.S. around a bonfire with friends, to porch beers with my neighbors, to several biergartens in Germany, to the biergarten here at Flying Bison, a glass outdoors just works for me. I am hoping the beer drinkers of Erie County join us for a fresh, cold beer in a beautiful Erie County park.”

42 North Owner John Cimperman adds that Pints in the Park is a great way to help expand the brewery’s reach into other areas of Erie County.

“’Pints in the Park’ is the perfect opportunity for us to bring our taproom experience beyond East Aurora,” Cimperman adds. “Each of our events, branded, Brews, Blues, & BBQ, will feature live music and BBQ from our friends at Fat Bob’s.”

Future locations include:

Sprague Brook Park (June 4, August 27, October 8)

Como Lake Park (June 17-18, July 15-16, Sept. 2)

Ellicott Creek Park (June 10-11, Aug. 3)

Chestnut Ridge Park (July 29-30, Oct. 15)

Black Rock Canal Park (July 1)

Akron Falls Park (Aug. 13)

Emery Park (Aug. 20)

“We (Resurgence) launched Pints in the Park three years ago with the city parks, and we are happy to see the concept evolving and growing,” Resurgence Brewing President Jeff Ware says. “We have beautiful city and county parks here in WNY, and what better way to enjoy them than with friends and family over a pint on a nice summer day! If you haven’t been to one of the parks lately, use this as an excuse to get back out there!”

Times and exact locations have yet to be announced.

Big Ditch Brewing Plans Dual Can Release

Big Ditch is helping the decision of what to stock your coolers with for Memorial Day very easy with a dual can release, Stark White Dad Shoes IPA and Pineapple Hayburner. Both will be released May 27 at 11am. Stark White Dad Shoes is a hazy IPA brewed with Riwaka and Vic Secret hops for notes of passionfruit and a low bitterness. Pineapple Hayburner is Big Ditch’s flagship IPA with a fresh tropical pineapple burst in the aroma and finish. Both beers will see limited distribution as well next week.

While there is something to the whole being one with nature thing you can experience in any one of the great parks across Western New York, being able to enjoy everything those same parks have to offer but while surrounded by friends with a fresh local beer in hand sounds much better. Am I alone in thinking that? At least Erie County agrees with me, as evidenced by their Pints in the Park Program, which features Resurgence Brewing, 42 North Brewing and Flying Bison hosting pop-up beer gardens across the Erie County Park System throughout the summer and fall.

And to make things even better (what’s better than sunshine, nature and fresh local beer?), a portion of proceeds from these events will be funneled straight back into the parks system to aid in putting on free community events.

The program kicks off June 5 at Sprague Brook Park.

Flying Bison patriarch Tim Herzog says Flying Bison is excited to be a part of the program because, aside from the obvious, enjoying beer outside in the elements is an important part of his evolution as a beer drinker.

Como Lake Park (June 18-20)

Ellicott Creek Park (July 9, 13-15)

Chestnut Ridge Park (July 10, September 17-19, October 15-17)

Isle View Park (July 11)

Black Rock Canal Park (July 23)

Emery Park (August 14, 20)

“We (Resurgence) launched Pints in the Park three years ago with the city parks, and we are happy to see the concept evolving and growing,” Resurgence Brewing President Jeff Ware says. “We have beautiful city and county parks here in WNY, and what better way to enjoy them than with friends and family over a pint on a nice summer day! If you haven’t been to one of the parks lately, use this as an excuse to get back out there!”

Times and exact locations have yet to be announced.
