Hamburg Brewing Creates Beer for Village Anniversary

The Village of Hamburg is turning 150 years old and Hamburg Brewing has created a special beer to commemorate the achievement, 1874, modeled after the original recipe for White Corner Wheat, the first beer ever brewed at Hamburg Brewing. 1874 American Wheat Ale is a 5.3% Wheat Ale, named after White’s Corners, which is now known as Main and Buffalo Streets, that’s brewed with Pilsner and Wheat malts, and Herkules, Perle and Citra hops. The beer is available on draft and in 12oz. 6-pack cans at the brewery.

New York Beer Project OP Beer Lodge to Open June 14

The NYBP Beer Lodge, New York Beer Project’s new location in Orchard Park in the Sterling Business Park, will officially open its doors to the public on June 14 (11am). An official ribbon cutting will take place between 3-4pm on Friday and will feature appearances from Buffalo Bills legend Jim Kelly, Bills Mafia founder Del Reid and Bills superfan John Lang, aka Bills Elvis, along with other Orchard Park officials. They will open with 17 beers, including Hazy Crush IPA and OP Lager, which will be exclusive to the NYBP OP Beer Lodge, and a seltzer on tap.

Wayland Brewing 1st Anniversary Weekend

Orchard Park’s Wayland Brewing are taking the entire weekend to celebrate their first anniversary. There will be a weekend- long cookout, BBQ specials, live music, and new beers. Wayland will drop a pair of new beers for their anniversary, including Fuller Send, a bigger version of Full Send, their 7% all-Citra IPA, brewed with more Citra, Citra Cryo and Yakima Chief’s experimental 701 extract, and Hive, a lightly tart saison featuring honey from Ellicottville’s Country Honey. Both beers will be available on draft and in cans starting Friday, June 14. The weekend festivities are free and open to the public, except for Friday’s Songbird’s concert, which is ticketed.

Buffalo Brewing Company PakTech Recycling Program

If you’re looking for a sustainable way to rid yourself of all of those PakTechs piling up at your house, you can bring them to Buffalo Brewing Company for recycling. The brewery has a designated bin at their taproom for PakTechs, which they then collect, sort, clean and reuse or send back for proper recycling. A PakTech is a plastic beer can holder that comes in 4-pack and 6-pack varieties. And they cannot be conventionally recycled, so Buffalo Brewing stepped in to help. According to the manufacturer, returning PakTechs has kept roughly 80 million pounds of plastic out of landfills and oceans since 2012.

BTR Brews Closes in Village of Angola

After originally planning to close on July 31, BTR Brews in the Village of Angola have closed their doors for good. “My sincerest gratitude to everyone who has supported myself and my family for the past 2 1/2 years,” owner Brandi Lombardo said via social media. “Unfortunately, BTR can no longer sustain and we closed our doors for the last time. Our hope was to have interested buyers to take over, however that hasn’t come to fruition. The business will continue to be for sale until mid-July and shortly thereafter if we do not have a buyer, we will be liquidating our assets.” BTR Brews held their grand opening on Dec. 3, 2021.

For the first time in two years and just in time for the NCAA Tournament at KeyBank Center, the Labatt Brew House will open on Thursday, March 17 and Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Brew House will be closed Friday and Sunday. On opening day, guests can choose from three new beers brewed on site by Labatt Brewmaster Ryan Brady. Mango Guava Sour, Hazy IPA, and Chocolate Stout, as well as fan favorites Labatt Blue, Labatt Blue Light will be on tap and Labatt Blue Light Seltzer in cans. The Labatt Brew House consists of a 3,000 square foot brewery and tasting room. The Draft Room is owned and operated by a separate company.

“We are excited to re-open the Labatt Brew House for the upcoming NCAA Tournament,” said Ryan Brady, Labatt brewmaster. “I’ve been having some fun creating a few new beers to serve to basketball fans on Thursday and Saturday. And of course, we will always have Blue and Blue Light available for Labatt loyalists. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.”

The Labatt Brew House will open for major events in the area. An updated calendar of events is posted on the Labatt Brew House website.
About the Labatt Brew House Beers

Mango Guava Sour – 5.2% ABV

A light and slightly tart ale with 300 pounds of fruit added in the fermenter, Mango Guava Sour appears a cloudy orange color from the addition of the fruit. The sweetness from the mango and guava comes forward, which is balanced with the tart finish.

Hazy IPA – 7.1% ABV

Brewed with pale, pilsner, wheat, and oats, this Hazy IPA is hopped with simcoe, galaxy, and citra. The slightly Hazy IPA has tons of fruit forward aroma and taste. Gooseberry, citrus, and peach are present in the aroma and taste, with a small hint of pine underneath.

Chocolate Stout – 6.8% ABV

A light bodied Chocolate Stout with a nice balance of chocolate and roasted flavors, this beer was aged on Ecuadorian Chocolate nibs imparting it with a nice smooth chocolate flavor and aroma. In addition to the chocolate nibs this beer was brewed with caramel malts for a bit of sweetness, and roasted malt for that classic stout flavor.

Labatt USA officials announced Wednesday that the Labatt Brew House, which consists of a 3,000 square foot brewery and tasting room, will open soon. The Labatt team is finalizing brewing and staffing plans that will include more limited hours of operation. The Labatt Brew House will open for large events at KeyBank Center starting in mid-March.

The Labatt Brew House has been closed for almost two years due to the pandemic. Now that the adjacent Draft Room reopened last year and is in regular operation, the Labatt Brew House will follow. Over the last couple of months, the Labatt Brew House brewmaster has tested and cleaned the brewery and equipment in preparation for brewing.

“During the pandemic, the beer industry rapidly changed, causing us to focus on adapting our core business importing, marketing and selling Labatt Blue and Labatt Blue Light,” said Rich Andrews, chief executive officer of FIFCO USA, parent-company to Labatt USA. “With the cancellation of events and more limited traffic around the Labatt Brew House, we have chosen to keep it closed until we could devise a plan that made sense for Labatt.

“Now that the Draft Room is open, we are planning to reopen the Labatt Brew House with an emphasis on serving our customers in the Cobblestone district while maintaining an efficient operational model,” said Andrews.

Labatt recently partnered with 200 bars and restaurants in a campaign to thank essential workers on the front lines with 100,000 chicken wings. Over 25 Buffalo businesses are participating in the program, which spans 11 markets.

The Labatt team began purchasing orders of wings from its bar and restaurant partners two weeks ago to both support the businesses and recognize those on the front lines. More than 90 chicken wing deliveries have already been donated to hospitals, nursing homes, police and fire stations and more.

Cross-Border Collaborations Set For 2020 Canadian American Beer Festival

The cross-border collaborations for the 2020 Canadian American Beer Festival are now set. The collaboration lottery was held before the inaugural Can-Am Fest on October 29 at the Scotia Bank Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario. In total, 40 breweries (20 American, 20 Canadian) will take part. The collabs will take place on both sides of the border, with plans calling for ten beers to brewed in Ontario and the other ten to be brewed in Western New York. Find all of the brewery teams at http://canadianamericanbeerfestival.com/. The CanAm is organized by the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association and Ontario Craft Brewers.

The Draft Room at the Labatt Brewhouse Celebrates One Year

It is truly hard to believe that the Draft Room inside the Labatt Brewhouse has already been in operation for one whole year, but it’s true, and the time to celebrate is November 15 (6pm). There will be live music courtesy of the Jamie Holka Band (6-10pm), as well as prizes, giveaways, birthday cake and $4 Labatt Brewhouse beers all day long, including their brand new Birthday Cake Stout, which will be on tap for the party. The party will also feature a limited release of LBH Imperial Mango Guava Sour in cans for the first time ever. Happy birthday!

42 North Brewing Unveils New Packaged Beer Redesign

42 North Brewing has unveiled a new re-design for all packaging for their core brands and seasonal offerings. The new packaging features a map legend on the front of the cans. This map legend includes the beer name and style, brewery coordinates, and the beer profile. “The goal with the new packaging is to provide consistency so consumers can easily identify a 42 North beer on-shelf. It’s also important to maintain the map imagery to connect us to our home, our place, on the 42nd parallel,” stated 42 North Founder John Cimperman. Look for these wherever great beer is sold.
