Froth Brewing, a brewery known for its Liquid Lollipops, a house line of heavily fruited smoothie-style sours, will close its taproom on Feb. 1, the brewery has announced. Froth opened in 2019.

“With full hearts and endless gratitude, we want to share just how thankful we are for every person who has been part of Froth over the last 7 incredible years. What began as a small dream grew into something so much bigger, a place filled with laughter, friendship, and community,” the brewery said. “After an unforgettable run, our taproom will be closing on February 1st. While this chapter is coming to an end, what we take with us is overwhelming pride in what we built together and deep appreciation for everyone who made it possible.”

While their home base at 700 Military Road may be closing for business, Froth Brewing beer won’t be going away entirely. A selection of their beer catalog will be contract-brewed and available at select retailers moving forward. More information on what exactly this means, including details on which beers will be brewed and where you can find them, will be available in the coming weeks.

“While our taproom chapter is closing, Froth is not going away. Our beers will continue to be brewed through our trusted brewing partnerships, and you will still find Froth on the shelves at your favorite beer stores, a little piece of what we created still out in the world,” Froth continued.

I have been a fan of Froth since the beginning, quite literally in fact. Scott, my fellow BBL co-founder, and I were at the taproom’s opening night – Friday, Jan. 12, 2019. We ordered several flights – The Autograph Blonde Ale, Loyal to the Grain Pilsner, Bread NEIPA, DiMaggio Triple Dry-Hopped New England Double IPA and Mounds Bar. Loyal to the Grain and DiMaggio were tops for me.

I was always a fan of the taproom space – I liked that it was cozy, a great place to watch a Sabres or Bills game, and I always loved having the brew house right there. There’s just something so welcoming about that. The brewery has long been known for its fruited sours, and while their Liquid Lollipop series became their calling card, favorites of beer geeks, resellers and traders alike, I always thought it was their other styles that were their best creations. I did always find it hilarious sitting at the bar on a Lollipop can release day and watching people show up in droves to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on cans, all of which would be on the resale market by the time I left the taproom. Craft beer used to be a pretty crazy place. But back to what I was saying – sure, there’s some appeal to the Lollipops, even though I’m a bigger fan of the Naked Lollipop series (much lighter fruited sours) – but I have long thought that Froth’s hazy IPAs and lagers were the best beer they make. Or made, whatever. Even their stouts and barrel-aging program are underrated, I feel. Haze like Pillow Top, Juice Life, Gold Digga DIPA, No Surf TIPA, Kush Clouds, Straight Nectar, the list of quality Froth IPAs is long, but their lagers are, and have been, my favorite. Froth was an early employer of Lukr faucets, side pull taps that allow for more control and a more pure representation of a lager pour. Froth’s House Pale Lager, House Amber Lager and House Black Lager are fantastic beers. And enjoying those beers on side pull gave me all the more reason to visit the taproom.

I’ll miss many things about Froth, maybe everything but that terrible parking lot. If you ever visited their taproom, you know exactly what I mean.

“To our guests, neighbors, and friends, thank you for showing up, supporting us, and making Froth part of your lives. Your love and support is what made this journey so special,” Froth continued. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything.”

Froth Brewing Taproom To Close Feb. 1

Froth Brewing will close their taproom on Feb. 1. A selection of their beer will be contract brewed and available at select retailers moving forward. “With full hearts and endless gratitude, we want to share just how thankful we are for every person who has been part of Froth over the last 7 incredible years. What began as a small dream grew into something so much bigger, a place filled with laughter, friendship, and community,” Froth said. Gift cards must be redeemed before closure. Froth Brewing opened at 700 Military Road in Buffalo in 2019. “To our guests, neighbors, and friends, thank you for showing up, supporting us, and making Froth part of your lives,” Froth continued.

Wayland Brewing Drops First Ever Collab Beer

Wayland Brewing has released their first ever collaboration – Errant Path, a 5% double decocted Czech-style pilsner that was structured around Edelweiss, a heritage barley variety. “The resulting beer has wonderful notes of bread dough and a honey-like sweetness, and is balanced with an herbal, almost green-tea like hop character,” the brewery said. It’s floral, with crisp and refreshing notes of biscuit malt. Errant Path is on tap and in cans at Wayland, as well as in limited quantities at Strangebird and at select retailers.

Wayland has also released Red Sky, a modern twist on a Red IPA. Red Sky is made with barley, wheat, hand-selected 2025 Mosaic hops and small amounts of crystal malts. “Expect notes of berry, pine sap, nettle and a bit of citrus,” the brewery said. The beer is lightly malted and light bodied with hoppy and citrus notes. You can find Red Sky on tap and in cans at Wayland.

Portville’s Marquee Brewing Closes Their Doors

Marquee Brewing, a Portville-based craft brewery that specialized in flavored hard sodas, has officially closed their doors, after nearly a year in business. They opened for business in July 2023. Owner Cory Clark made the announcement via social media. “It’s been fun, but now we’re done,” the social post reads. “It’s with great sadness that I must announce the closure of Marquee Brewing. In trying to understand why we didn’t make it, I’ve thought of a thousand reasons, but the only one that matters is we just don’t get enough people to come through the doors. I am so grateful to my wife and family, my parents, the Van Curens, the Milnes, my employees and everyone that we have shared a moment with over drinks or food.”

If you participated in Dry January, congratulations, you’ve made it through, and you’re a healthier person for it. But along the way you missed a number of tasty craft brews that were released into the wild across Western New York over these past 30 days. And if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you might want to find one or two of these beers in your glass sometime soon. So, in my never ending quest to try and do everything I can to make the best and brightest local craft brews easier to find for all of you, here is a list of January releases you might have missed.

Wayland Brewing – Foray Czech Pale Lager & Ember Czech Amber Lager

In case you missed it, Orchard Park’s Wayland Brewing have added a pair of side pull beer faucets to their tap system and have introduced two new lagers, Foray Czech Pale Lager and Ember Czech Amber Lager. The former was light, sweet, and crisp, with big crackery malt notes, while the latter was easy drinking with notes of spice, caramel, malt, and toffee. Both Foray and Ember are available on side pull and in 12oz. 6-pack cans to go now. If you’re going to hit up Wayland, I would also suggest grabbing a pour of their Old Growth Oak Aged Brown Ale.

Froth Brewing – House Black Lager

Froth Brewing has added to their collection of house lagers with the release of House Czech Black Lager, a 4.8% dark lager that features a fluffy, pillow-like head with notes of caramel, coffee and chocolate. This is the third beer the brewery is featuring on their Lukr side pull taps, joining their House Amber Lager and their House Pale Lager. (Availability: Draft, cans)

Big Ditch Brewing – Stop Counting Carbs IPA

If you’ve already abandoned your New Year’s Resolutions, then Big Ditch has a new IPA tailor made just for you. Stop Counting Carbs is a 7% hazy IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin, El Dorado, and Trident hops, featuring notes of citrus, melon, and white grape. (Availability: Draft, cans)

Magic Bear Beer Cellar x One-Eyed Cat Brewing Binturong

For their latest in-house collaboration, Larkin’s Magic Bear Beer Cellar is teaming up with Williamsville’s One-Eyed Cat Brewing. The result is Binturong (I’ll save you a Google search – a Binturong is a bearcat), a 3.8% English style Ordinary Bitter that’s malt forward with a touch of floral and grassy hops. (Availability: Draft)

Hofbrauhaus Buffalo – Schwarzbier

This is a dark German lager that balances roasted, yet smooth, malt flavors with moderate hop bitterness. The lighter body, dryness and lack of a heavy aftertaste helps make this beer quite drinkable. (Availability: Draft)

Old First Ward Brewing – Ten Years After

Gene McCarthy’s is celebrating ten years of Old First Ward Brewing with the release of Ten Years After, a 10.6% imperial stout brewed with a base of Floor Malted Maris Otter Malt along with specialty English crystal malts and numerous types of roasted and chocolate malts from the U.K and Netherlands. It features notes of slightly bitter dark chocolate, deep molasses, and a hint of chocolate covered raisins, ending with a touch of hop bitterness to compliment the booze. (Availability: Draft)

Smoldered Society – Illusion of Society Double IPA

Smoldered Society is back with Illusion of Society, their first ever Double IPA. This 8.5% DIPA is brewed with Citra Cyro, Azacca CGX, Rakau, Loral and Phantasm Powder. If a Double IPA isn’t your thing, Smoldered Society has also dropped Shadows on the Moon Mango Lassi Sour Ale. (Availability: Cans)

Wayland Brewing Introduces New Lagers, Lukr Side Pull Taps

Orchard Park’s Wayland Brewing are focusing on their lagers with the release of Foray Czech Pale Lager and Ember Czech Amber Lager. Foray, brewed with heritage pilsner malt from Czech Moravia and Czech-grown Saaz hops, features a mildly sweet, crisp bready malt character and floral hops, while Ember has a little bit of honey-like sweetness but is highlighted by notes of toasted bread crust and a hint of caramel. Both beers are available in 12oz. 6-pack cans, as well as on tap on Wayland’s new Lukr beer faucets, which help bring out all of the beer’s character and produce a dense, wet foam cap. Both are served in a traditional 16oz. Czech mug.

Magic Bear Beer Cellar to Release New One-Eyed Cat Collab

For their latest in-house collaboration, Larkin’s Magic Bear Beer Cellar is teaming up with Williamsville’s One-Eyed Cat Brewing. The result is Binturong (I’ll save you a Google search – a Binturong is a bearcat), a 3.8% English style Ordinary Bitter that’s malt forward with a touch of floral and grassy hops. The beer will be available at Magic Bear on January 26 (5-7pm). For the release, Magic Bear will also be tapping a number of other One-Eyed Cat beers.
